E Hotel Higashi Shinjuku was my very first hotel in Tokyo of my first trip to Japan. I knew it will be very small based on most of the reviews on tripadvisor, but it is somehow smaller than what I had expected. There was hardly any space to move around. My standard suitcase basically taken 10% of the moving space and we tried not to open our suitcase unless it is necessary as we only can do it on our bed. Toilet was roughly 30% bigger than toilet on an airplane. Even the room is small, it still fit in most of the necessaries of a three star hotel such as kettle, refrigerator, TV, toiletries, slipper, bath suit, etc.
The room is clean, sleeping quality is okay but the pillow is somehow very hard and occationally i can heard siren for fire engine that passing by.
For me location scored the highest point for this hotel. The hotel is practically next to Higashi Shinjuku subway station which is served by two metro lines, the Oedo Line and Fukutoshine Line. Take the exit A1 and the hotel is just 5 meter away on your right. There are plenty of restaurants around. McDonald and Coco Ichibanya Curry house is just 15 meter away. Convenience stall Lawson is just next to the hotel while Shin-Okubo Koreatown and Kabukicho are just 5 minutes away. We arrived late to the hotel and still able to have our dinner at 2am! There are many restaurants practically open 24 hours.
E Hotel Higashi Shinjuku is possibly the cheapest 3 star conventional hotel around this area. When I’m the type of traveller who like to spend some time enjoying the hotel room but due to the small size of the room, I hardly go back to my room except sleeping at night. There is plenty of “Love Hotel” around but you are required to checkout next day and check in around 8pm every day. If you are arriving late and only stay one night at Shinjuku, “Love Hotel” is definitely worth a try.
I don’t think I will be going back to E Hotel Higashi Shinjuku due to the size of the room. I rather pay 15% extra to get a bigger room on some other conventional hotel around this area.
