The Best Western Astina is in the heart of Kabuki-cho (neighborhood) in the Shinjuku area of Tokyo. Within a few minutes walk in any direction, there are more restaurants and shops than you can count. There are both eastern and western restaurants, so satisfying your palate won't be a problem.
The hotel is about a 10-15 minute walk from the Shinjuku train/Metro station, and just under 10 minutes from the Shin-sanchome Metro station.
The hotel lobby is on the third floor of the building. The lower floors are stores/convenient store. There is an elevator and escalators that take you up from the outside street. The lobby is very modern and nice. The staff speaks very good English and is extremely friendly. The elevators are very fast.
The room is small, which is typical for Japan, however there was enough room for my wife, toddler, and myself. There is a myriad of lighting options in the room, but some of the overhead lights are directly above the bed and can be too bright. The bed is very comfortable and the pillows are plush. There is a small couch and desk as well.
The bathroom was very nice. The toilet is electronic with a constantly heated seat. The shower has great pressure and a very ingenious shower know system. The mirror is heated, so it will not fog up during a shower. The only downside to the bathroom is the door. It is glass, so at night, the light and sound may bother those in the room.
The internet is wired, but free. It is also very fast!
A free breakfast buffet is included in the lobby restaurant. The service is very friendly and a variety of food is offered, from cereal, yoghurt, and bread to traditional Japanese cuisine.
Behind the hotel is a quiet flower/tree-lined path that connects one main street to another.
There are two self-service laundry machines on the 7th floor. The washers dispense detergent automatically, so no need for your own. The dryer is not very efficient, so extra time for drying should be expected. Expect to spend 500-700 Yen depending on your load size.
I would definitely stay at this hotel and recommend it to others.
Choose a room on an upper floor for a good view of the city. East rooms have great sunrise views.
