I have been coming here for over 20 yrs now. The building of this restaurant was originally a large Sentou (communal bath house). That's why they are unusual looking large house with many rooms and very high sealing with windows near the top (for steam ventilation). This is the place I've gotten hooked on Tonkatsu years ago. There are many places that serves Tonkatsu and some are popular as well. I have tried those popular places and new places when I hear about them but yet still, for me, no one beat Maisen so far. If you order Tonkatsu only dish, it's a bit pricier as meat is very expensive in Japan to start with. But their pork are from their own firm in Kyushu where they raise particular breeds in their particular way. Meat is so tender, you can cut the meat with chopstick! It's absolutely worth it! And it's not only just their meat is superior, the way they cook them is very juicy, crispy and light, even they are deep flied dish. If you get one of those their Teishoku (set menu), you can get many different dish that includes small tonkatsu are a great value. They give you free okawari (another bowl of) rice and cabbage if you ask them. I'll keep going here as long as they keep serving excellent & good value food like they always has been.
