“Convenient Location and reasonable room size”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2013

The hotel is a short 5-10 minute walk from Shinjuku JR Station South Exit. There are also alot of eating options around the hotel.

The hotel room is nicely done up and has the needed facilities in the room. One thing that can be improved would be to have wi-fi in the rooms too. The rooms are small, as expected in tokyo hotels, but i have been to smaller rooms within tokyo area.

I would rate the hotel reception staff english a 6 out of 10, but they are very friendly and helpful and will try to you help you as best as they can.

Room Tip: They are pretty strict abt the check in timing at 3pm. But they will allow you to leave the luggage...

This was my second stay at the SunRoute Plaza, Shinjuku. Our stay this time was split into two 4-day time periods and the SunRoute stored some of our luggage in the interim while we toured other areas of Japan. Staff is very courteous and prompt speaking enough English to assist with whatever is needed. They even provided helpful guidance on Japanese customs as a guest at a dinner. The rooms are clean and comfortable but small in line with many other accommodations in Asia. The buffet breakfast offered a wide variety of tasty Western and Asian items. The location is marvelous, with an entrance to the Metro right next door…along with an ATM booth. The JR station and many other Metro lines are within a 2-block walk. A wide selection of restaurants is right across the street. There are convenience stores and large department stores within a block. The hotel offers maps with directions to sightseeing locations, shopping, and restaurants. Free WiFi is available in the Business Lounge on 2nd floor. Only cabled access is available in the rooms.

Very convenient location with Shijunku station only being a 2 block walk from the hotel and shuttle buses from the Narita Airport come directly to the hotel.( be sure and buy your return airport bus ticket early at the hotel front desk as they can sell out). The neighborhood had multiple restaurant options within a couple of blocks along with a family market across the street. The hotel was very clean and only issue we had was WIFI was only available on the first two floors of the hotel. Small guest lounge on 2nd floor was usually very crowded.

Everyone was very courteous and helpful.

Room Tip: We upgraded our room to a standard twin room and were pleasantly surprised that our room was large e...

We arrived too early for checking in, but were able to leave our luggages near the reception while we went out for a few hours. Upon checking in, the size of the room took a bit of time to adjust to. We already knew the room would be small but seeing it had a bigger impact than just reading about it. We had to quickly adapt to it (such as taking turns to step over the luggages to get to the bed or table), but other than than, we found it comfortable enough.

The previous reviewer mentioned the lack of English language channels on TV, as well as complimentary coffee. I concur with that, and I think it would have been a nice touch if these were included.

The hotel certainly has location going for it. It's barely 10 mins to Shinjuku station, and there are shops and eateries in every street you care to walk to.

The reception staff that I happened to talk to on a few occasions had sufficient knowledge of English to be helpful and informative. No issues there.

To get an adequate wifi signal, you really had to be in the guest lounge located on the 2nd level, and this was a source of inconvenience for us. It would have been better if free wifi was also available in rooms, but it appears this service has not yet caught on in Japan. Fortunately for us, I had anticipated this and brought my own travel wireless router which i could connect to the cabled internet available in our room.

I had no other complaints and issues with this hotel and overall, had a pleasant stay.

Location is great. Wifi at lobby is working (although connection cuts sometimes). Free internet in room but cabled so you have to have a laptop. Convenience store just across the street is a plus. Breakfast coffee take away is a nice surprise. Now for some improvements. wifi does not reach the coffee shop. CNN is the only english language channel as far as i can tell. In-room free tea is good but free coffee also would be great.

Room Tip: bring your laptop if you want internet in your room because only cabled access is available.

The hotel is 2 blocks from the station (Shinjuku) which allows you to go everywhere. Room was extremely small but warm. People at front desk did not speak very fluent english but tried to help. Breakfast was good.

Stayed here last August 2012. Very good location. Just near Shinjuku MRT. Lots of food places that you can walk to. The hotel is located in a quiet street. The hotel room itself was small. We had to take turns opening our luggage. We each had 29" rolling luggage. To give you an idea of how small the room is the foot of the bed is only around 12-15 inches from the wall. We had to take turns in moving to and fro the room. Anyway, we expected this after reading the reviews. WIFI is available only in the lobby so at night you'd see a lot of guest sitting in the lobby chairs doing internet stuff on their gadgets. Bed was comfy. Room and bath were quite clean. They have a mini fridge in case you need it.

I recommend bringing some water with you always. We were there during summer and it was extremely hot. You can buy a gallon water bottle and just refill your small water bottles before you go out for the day. This will save you some money. For eating, hidden behind those big building in main roads are small eating establishments. Lots to choose from and normally quite good.

I'd stay here again.
