“Perfect base for exploring Tokyo”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 27, 2013

I have stayed at Sunroute Plaza Tokyo four times in four years, for the following reasons:

Great price for what you get

Clean, new, well designed hotel

Perfect location - super close to all of the train lines (two directly next door), Citibank next door , post office across the road (for mailing shopping home) and a short walk to all of Shinjuku's shops and attractions.

You can get an airport bus to and from the hotel at certain times of the day - much easier than navigating the railway with luggage.

Perfect if you're looking for somewhere clean and convenient to sleep.

From Haneda Airport, there is a direct bus/coach to the hotel. However, if u arrive late, the bus stops elsewhere but within 7 mins walk to the hotel. Just look out for McDonalds & you're practically at their doorstep.
Shinjuku train station (Exit A) is just outside the hotel, making Sunroute an ideal choice.
Needless to say, it was spotless ...
Would have preferred to have free wifi in the rooms. Free wifi is confined to lobby/resto area. But that's only minor inconvenience.

Easy to get to from Airport via rail into Tokyo Station-change to Shinjuku. Leave Shinjuku Station via South Exit, cross road, at Starbucks turn right walk down some stairs and hotel directly in front of you, an approx 5 minutes easy walk with baggage!
We stayed in a Queen size room which was plenty big enough for two. Only issue if at all - the Guest Lounge where there is supposed to be wi-fi seems to be unable to pick up wi-fi but the next floor down by reception it does work.....
Staff very nice, friendly & helpful
Would totally recommend

Been to Tokyo a few times and has always stayed in Shinjuku and at Keio Plaza. This time around this was the only place that was available and decided to give a try base on Tripadvisors review.
The good:
-Hotel is a stop for the Airport LimoBus. So if you are looking for door to door service to Narita, it's a major plus.
-Location. It's even bettter than Keio Plaza. You are literally one block away from Shinjuku train station and in the midst of numerous department stores, eateries, shops, etc. Very very convenient.
-I booked the room with breakfast. The buffet style breakfast was good with varieties of japanese and western food. Quality not as good as Keio, but cheaper and sufficient.
The bad:
-I specifically booked a non-smoking room and of course upon check-in, I was told none was available. Once I went to the room, the smoke smell was quite strong. The hotel does have a deodorizing spray, but it does not work. I guess it's a common complaint from the occupant for them to supply the spray. I had to buy a stronger one from the store, open the window, and then it was tolerable. Not recommended for people who are truly allergic to smoke.
-The size of the room was ok. I booked the larger of the the twin bed rooms and it still felt a bit tight with the luggage opened. The room also felt very used. No too much upkeep.
-The bathroom was tight. It is one constructed with the pre-fabricated walls and floors. Feels very cheap for hotel at this price point.
-The front desk people were fine with English, but not very friendly or helpful. I was very surprised by that. Japanese people by nature are usually very polite, very keen on mannerism, esp in the service industry. Here, the front desk people are just indifferent.

So you don't care about the bad, the hotel is fine because of its location and relative reasonable price.

Room Tip: Make sure to specify non-smoking room if that is what you want. Call the hotel ahead of your arrival...

Staff have very good english. Hotel is in a convenient location close to lots of shopping and the Shinjuku train station. Rooms are standard fare at this price point, but they are clean and mostly noise free. Airport limousine bus access to Haneda and Narita airports. Would definitely consider staying here again for a Tokyo trip!

We stayed at the Sunroute Plaza for two nights as we were passing through Tokyo. We took Narita Express from the airport, which was very simple. The hotel is just a few blocks away. The hotel staff were extremely helpful and polite and spoke good English, including the wait staff in the restaurant.

Our room was very clean (small by US standards, but that is to be expected) and our bed was quite comfortable. Shinjuku station is a few blocks away, so we used the train several times, which was very easy to navigate. The nearby area has a lot of restaurants and interesting things to see, so we walked around a good amount as well.

The only real asset of this hotel is its great location, right beside Shinjuku station.
We were possibly very unlucky with the room we were assigned to. Air-conditioning was poor. Each night the heating system would turn off by itself and when it was working it was loud and the air coming out was cold. Even though we complained and each time someone came up to check the heating (they even changed filters inside of the air-conditioner), situation hasn't changed for the whole duration of our stay in the hotel.
Room was clean yet the walls were dirty. Toilet was Ok yet it had an odd smell.
On the other hand, staff was friendly and tried to help each time, though unsuccessfully.
There is a possibility that we haven't been lucky with the room and that other rooms are in better condition...however, all in all, we would NOT recommend this hotel.
