“right choice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 14, 2013

recommended by friends, it was a great choice. Perfect location for a quick 36 hour stopover in Tokyp. Wonderful staff - thanks for unexpected upgrade and late check out. All staff very professional and pleasant , and helpful. Huge bathroom. Japanese 'washing ' toilet. Only negative - and quite minor, but a charge for wifi internet - even the tea and coffee in the room.

Room Tip: just be polite. The Japanese are lovely high service oriented people.

“Great place to stay in Tokyo”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2013

This is my second stay here. I was fortunately upgraded and my room was terrific. Staff is really great and they make westerners feel very comfortable. You cannot beat the location to the train station but also just to walk around Shibuya.

“Good location, helpful staff, great views”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 10, 2013

We stayed at the Cerulean a few times throughout January 2013. It's lovely and close to Shibuya station and the crossing.

The Cerulean staff are what really made our trip special - it was an absolute pleasure to deal with the concierge (Yoko and Naoko) even before we arrived they helped me to plan and book some unattainable restaurants, Sumo wrestling and the Kabuki. Without them our trip wouldn't have been nearly as special - thank you!

The room service is also lovely at this hotel - great silver service. However, the breakfast downstairs in the morning is pretty average. They would do better to put it on a higher level like the Park Hyatt does. Would definitely recommend a drink upstairs at the bar for sunset - you can get great views to Mt Fuji when it's clear.

Beware - book through Expedia as you get between 30-40% off the normal hotel room rate as we found out when we wanted to stay an extra day.

“Nothing special - basic, with veneer of five-star”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 8, 2013

Easy for me to say as I didn't fork out the money to stay here. I've been in less pricey places (again, paid for by work) that have been much better experiences. Eating here is a strange experience in that they don't seem to get the concept of ordering a main meal and then following up with dessert (that is, they have desert on the menu, but they bring you the bill after the main course, which makes you think that perhaps you should have ordered it all in one go!) Small beer in the scheme of things. Location is great, 2 mins to Shibuya crossing and the Metro, and thence to anywhere in Tokyo. Rooms are basic, TV is 99% Japanese so if you wanted to take in a Western movie or just relax you're pretty much stuck with the odd programme from Fox!

“A solid hotel serviced by the airport shuttle bus”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

Location was ok - its not really in the 'main' part of Shibuya, but its not so far away from Metro, Shibuya crossing and the other key streets/area. All walkable.

Rooms are a bit tired and plain - you could do a lot better for the price by going for something more 'boutique'.

We chose Cerulean primarily because it was a fixed drop-off point for the airport shuttle for both Narita and Haneda (very quick and cheap transfers) as well as being in an area we hadn't stayed before.

Very nice high-floor bar with fantastic views of the city - a bit stuffy though with the staff trying to present a 'we are a high class establishment' attitude.

Charging for Wifi? Seriously? We stayed and ate at lots of other places in Japan and always WiFi was free - like the air you breathe! Not sure why a Tokyo hotel is persisting with this very old-school, stingy approach to what is now a basic service.

Overall I say Cerulean is 'solid'. I wouldn't call it an intimate or luxurious place though!
