“Big and beautiful but second to Isetan”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 9, 2013

This Takashimaya is at the complex with Times Square and Tokyo Hands. It is one of Japans leading department store chains. I briefly walked thru the store on my way to the basement food hall. What I saw was an upscale expensive but impeccably laid out store with just about anything you would look for in a department store. It is a couple of blocks away from the Isetan Department Store in Shinjuku, although it might be listed as being in Shibuya. The basement food hall is huge with every food item, both packaged and for eating there. Very clean and beautifully merchandised for impulse buying. However, having been to Isetan food hall earlier, I was not quite as impressed with the Takashimaya food hall. If you need to make a choice, definitely choose Isetan. I did not get to go to Tokyo Hands which is in the same complex, but will do so on my next visit.

A lot of interesting goods to buy! But the mall closes early- except for the restaurants at the top floor

“Skip the store, hit Tokyu Hands instead!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2013

Takashimaya Times Square has a lot more to offer than just the Takashimaya Department Store (which is very upscale and expensive). The food basement is awesome, and the six-story Tokyu Hands store is always worth a visit or two. The Kinokuniya bookstore branch is fantastic (and it has an entire floor of foreign-language -- i.e., English -- books). Take the Southern Terrace exit from Shinjuku Station. The restaurants on the 11-13th floors of Takashimaya are often very busy -- bring a book and expect to wait -- but the one we tried (the shabu-shabu place) was excellent.

“Great store.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 19, 2012

You could spend the day in this store. It's huge. I am not sure why they call it Takahimaya Times Square? Also Tokyo Hands in fun to look through. I visited a lot of the dept. stores because of the rainy weather.

“More upclass boutiques and shops.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2012

In Takashimaya, you can find boutiques of the more upclass brands. 1 thing to note, the basement has a fruit section that might have discounts from time to time and trust me, if you have never tried japanese fruits, you should! Especially peaches when they are in season. Musk Melon is known to be very expensive in Japan as they are often used as gifts. There are very tasty musk melons that cost about 1000-2000yen each. Yes it's still expensive, but they taste oh-so-good! And oh, wait till you see the melons that costs hundreds of dollars and more!!
