“Witnessed a wedding at this historical site”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2013

Leaving the Harajuku rail station, turn right, across the bridge then you'll see the main entrance of Meiji Shrine. It's in a well maintained forested area with tall, shady trees. This is the place where you meet many Japanese women in their colourful kimonos.
Also I was indeed lucky to witness a traditional Japanese wedding at this auspicious site.- actually it was my first experience of the ceremony and kept my camera rolling.
Really glad to have made this trip from George Town, Penang, Malaysia

“Great spot!”

Meiji Shrine was my favorite tourist attraction in Tokyo. Its extremely relaxing, peaceful, and quiet. Definitely worth the trip!

“Baffled by the good reviews”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

I'm deeply confused by the 5 star reviews. I realise this shrine is of culture significance, so perhaps people feel bad giving a low rating, but it really wasn't a great sight to see.

The walk through the forest was very pleasant and it smelt absolutely wonderful. It was also lovely and cool, which was pleasant after the hot Sunday crush of Harajuku (highly recommended!). However, the shrine itself has been fairly recently rebuilt and was plain and completely uninspiring. Judging purely as a non-Japanese visitor interested in aesthetically pleasing sights, I cannot recommend this shrine.

If you have time go to Nikko or Kyoto where the temples and shrines are absolutely breathtaking.

“A place to find peace”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2013

After a day in crowded Shibuya, the next morning I came to this place. What a way to get back to balance. The natural scene was an ease for my mind.

“Pleasant morning visit.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 3, 2013

We got off at Yoyogi station, and walked south along a street until we entered the park from the Northwest entrance - this is a much less crowded entrance and it was an enjoyable stroll through the forest, picking up acorns, to the shrine.
Highly recommended attraction.
