“Basic amenities in an expensive city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 10, 2013

The hotel location (there are several) is Roppongi in central Tokyo, so convenient to subway lines. The Villa Fontaine's market niche can only be described as a business hotel. That is, basic, clean, frills free rooms for what in Tokyo is a very modest price.

The front desk staff are always polite, and at this Villa Fontaine location, fluent in English. The rooms are modest in size, but not as cramped as other Japanese business hotels. The mattress is fairly hard, but larger than average so good for tall foreigners. The chair at the desk is not comfortable (and no height adjustment), so working with a laptop isn't optimal. An example of the no-frills approach is that rooms only have wired ethernet access, which is free and fast. There is also free wi-fi in the lobby area.

The bath-shower are comfortable with plenty of hot water; small but not as cramped as many. All the basics are present. There is free coffee and tea in the room, but no room service, only vending machines on each floor. However the hotel is part of a subway station building complex with a variety of restaurants and convenience stores, and a short walk from the major (but noisy) Roppongi Crossing entertainment district.

Breakfast comes with the room price, and it Japanese oriented (rice, miso soup, etc.), with a few western items, and self-service. While not luxurious, it's filling and guests can go return for more.

Hotel Villa Fontaine Roppongi is a very good japanese hotel hence the rooms are small and the beds are hard. The room was really clean and was well kept after. Some of the staff spoke good english and they were eager to help. The rooms were quiet and well equipped with amenities.

I can't give this hotel a five since they serve the japanese breakfast in the lobby and your clothes catches a bit of that aroma. I had the breakfast while my wife wanted something more Western so she went to Maison Paul on the backside.

Rooms has free available internet by cable, free WiFi in the lobby so bring your Macbook and if you want to have free WiFi in the room as well.

The hotel is well located, the underground stops under it and taxis were queueing outside. The cherry trees were in bloom while we were there.

I will stay here next time when I am in this part of Tokyo.

Room Tip: The rooms with number x30 x31 have a view to the back so you do not look straight into another build...

Great hotel within a complex with access to Metro (Namboku line), 7/11 and a wide variety of restaurants (Japanese and other asian cuisines) without having to go outside. Room size was fine with plenty of room to work comfortably and wired internet that was fast enough to allow for Skype video conferencing. Would have liked WiFi in room to allow use of tablet and mobile phone, instead had to go to lobby where free Wifi was provided. Bath was good size allowing for a proper lie-down soak at end of day. Breakfast was typical Japanese fare and plentiful if not inspiring. Reception very helpful and all had good english.

I stayed at the Villa Fontaine because I had meetings in Roppongi and it was extremely convenient for these, as well as being not too near the rather infamous and noisy Roppongi cross-roads. It is what is known as a “business hotel”, which means that services are fairly basic. For example, only breakfast is served and there is no room service, only vending machines on each floor and a fridge in each room.

In addition, the room was relatively small, with very little storage (possibly the most annoying feature) and the bed was pretty hard, although the Villa Fontaine is hardly alone among hotels in that. However, the bathroom was perfectly adequate and had a plentiful and powerful supply of hot water. In addition, everything seemed to be spotless and there were tea and coffee-making facilities, which are always welcome.

Rather to my surprise, given how Japan is perceived as very technologically advanced, there was no wifi in the room, only in the lobby (where it was free, admittedly). In the room it was back to the old ethernet cable, although this was again free.

The staff were all extremely friendly and polite and the price was pretty reasonable for Tokyo, so if you are looking for a base in Roppongi without paying the earth and are prepared to accept that it is not the height of luxury, the Villa Fontaine is not a bad option.

Front Desk was helpful, rooms were good and clean, location of the hotel was good and is in front of the roppongi-itchome subway station so no probs to that and yeah made it easy to get around the city. Complimentary free breakfast down in the lobby is decent. Overall Not bad for a 3 star hotel

What I really need in a tiring business trip is comfortable bed to sleep. And I didn't get it from this hotel. The bed is very hard and pillow has something like beads in it. When I woke up in the morning, I expect nice hot shower to start my day. I did not get it either. The shower has to 2 faucets, one for hot water and the other for cold water. Needs almost a minute to adjust each faucet to get the right temperatur. The worse of all is the breakfast. There is a looong table in front of the reception desk. guess what? that is the dinning table they have, to serve breakfast. Breakfast choise are very limited. Rice, miso soup, grilled fish, nori, boiled egg, croisant (taste terrible), white bread+jam, coffee+tea, grape fruit and orange juice. Dont forget to bring all your dish to used dish rack, because they only have 1 waitress to help.
The nice thing of this hotel there is subway and convinient store under the hotel. But still you need 15 minutes walk to ropongi area.

Villa Fontaine was a good little hotel in the business dist of Tokyo. stayed in this hotel for about 5 days and the place was pretty good in terms of comfort. the neighborhood is pretty good and is close to Roppongi (about 2-3 mins). The good thing was we could find a lot of Indian restaurants in close vicinity. in fact there is one two floors below.
on the flip side, the rooms were a bit small but since i was alone, it did not matter too much.
