“Excellent Value and Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

Right in the heart of Akasaka and close to the Imperial Palace and Akasaka Palace. Very close to two subway stations so easy to get to other parts of the city. Plenty of places to eat nearby. Great value for anywhere but especially Tokyo. Have stayed here and at other Monterey hotels in Japan and would again.

Well maintained, reception staff helpful, rooms clean but small (bed against the wall) though well equipped. The hotel is not as close to the metro as it may lead you to believe - it takes 10 minutes to the trains from the hotel. Plenty of restaurants and night life nearby.

Typically small Japanese room but perfectly adequate and clean. Nice bathroom and very good staff. My only complaint would be the room although a no-smoking room still had a smell of smoke throughout the room which is probably through the air-conditioning system. We found this was not unusual throughout our Japan holiday as smoking is far more prevalent in Japan than in Australia these days.
This hotel is not well signposted at street level and you could easily walk straight past it. Look up for Hotel Monterey Advertising sign at about 3rd floor level and keep looking in the alcoves if walking in from the subway.

This was my favorite hotel we stayed in while traveling across Japan and South Korea. There are two train station entrances nearby, each within a 5-10 minute walk from the hotel. The Marunouchi Line will take you right into Tokyo Station and other popular stops. Right behind the hotel are alleyways of impressive restaurants, shops and bars. Lots of professionals, tourists and younger folk seem to hang out in this area of Akasaka.

We had a room on the ninth floor and a window facing the Sky Tree (Tokyo Tower) and the city. The view was amazing! My friend and I chose a double and it still felt spacious. The mattresses are firm but not too hard (just the way I like them), and the bathroom was clean and stocked with plenty of amenities. The decor in the room, as well as the main lobby, is something out of a European magazine - very elegant, classy and modern. The front desk had employees that spoke English and would introduce any incoming calls to your room. They even helped us with directions and pulled out a English version map of the metro lines and districts.

We were only here for two nights, but we should have stayed here our entire stay in Tokyo. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Japan. It's great for couples, family and travel mates.

My wife and I stayed here for one night in March 2013. The room was quite small - apparently the Japanese standard, but we didn't have much room and barely enough to open up two suitcases. The bed was comfortable, though an extra (softer) pillow would have been appreciated.

Bathroom reasonably sized, clean and all worked. Pyjamas provided in the room!

Free wifi in the hotel.

Location good in that there are lots of restaurants and plenty of bars nearby, and there's a metro station (Akasaka Mitsuke) very close to the hotel. However, there are not many tourist/cultural sites nearby. All are accessible through the metro network, though.

Not cheap for what you get but a nice hotel. Friendly staff, too.

I had an excellent stay at hotel Monterey. The hotel was very conveniently situated for my needs during my stay.
The front desk was very professional and completely managed to make my stay a pleasant one.
The breakfast served at level 2 was to my liking, especially since it covered both Japanese and western style breakfasts.
The hotel was very nicely insulated against traffic sounds etcetera, which made it easy to rest both regarding night sleep and mid-day naps.
The rooms are smallish, but in every way managed to fulfill my needs regarding wardrobe size, bed size etcetera. Also the complete set of utilities, like hairdryer, slippers, TV, alarm clock etcetera was also to my liking. The bathroom was very good and was even beyond my needs in comfort.
So, in short, I will gladly stay at Hotel Monterey next time I visit Tokyo.

I stayed in two hotels in the Akasaka area, and this was by far and away the better both in terms of location (near to Akasaka mitsuke underground station, rather than Akasaka, which has better connections). The hotel is also near to the roads of restaurants and bars in Akasaka, but in a quiet location. It is a few minutes walk from both the station and restaurants.

The decore of the room is good, and although the room is small it wasn't the smallest I've stayed in whilst in Japan! It was reasonable, and the bathroom had a bath in (although it's fairly short, it was better than no bath).
