“Nice place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 28, 2012

We spent 8 nights there and generally enjoyed the entire experience. I did my research using Tripadvisor, so when I got there I had notes and basic ideas of what was around. If you plan to go to Tokyo and stay inside all the time, then you may want to rent at ANA. This hotel provided the basics very well, and I will return there next year.

The check-in process was easy and I did remember to ask for the data cable for the internet. Wifi is also available, but it was spotty in my room on the 7th floor. The elevator is small, so if you are travelling with a family with luggage, the staff will offer to take up the rest of your luggage to your room.

You are given two room cards. One card must be placed in a wall holder so that the lights can be turned on in the room. Removing that card works like a "kill switch" for the entire room.

Breakfast at the Italian Restaurant, Osteria Pippos is good, but you may tire of it after a few mornings. They serve the same thing every morning. Yes, it is good, but you understand where I am going with this.

There are two supermarkets nearby. One is a 24 hour, Maruetsu Petit, and the other is out the hotel, turn left and across the street about 20 meters. They are not 24 hours, but the food is good and it is bigger than the other. You can get plates, knives and forks for the front desk. they will bring it right up. They also wash it and leave it there for your entire trip. There is a microwave and a small fridge for you to use.

If you need to change cash to Yen you have two options nearby. Firstly there is a post office within walking distance and they are closed at 4:00pm Monday through Friday. If you are wanting money on weekends or at night you can walk to the ANA Inter Continental and they have an ATM money changer. You pay about 10% extra when compared to the Post office.

Restaurants are everywhere.

The rooms are very spacious by Japanese standards. Beds and pillow are hard, typical for Japan, but you can ask for softer pillows at reception. There is free wi-fi, which is great. The room and bathroom are well equipped and clean though a little dull looking. Kitchenette is also useful for families - you have to ask reception for plates and cutlery though. The location is very central, easy walking distance from Akasaka metro station. Overall very good value for money.

Planned on staying at the ANA, but prices were ridiculous, so thought I'd try this place out. I loved it. In my book this place is 5 star, but since I don't want others to discover this gem, I give it 4 stars. No, it's not fancy and big like the ANA or Hyatt, but the rooms are WAY bigger, the staff is very friendly, the place is nice & quiet, the restaurant has great breakfast, the rooms are very clean, and there is free wifi. What more could you want? Oh, It's also close to lots of great restaurants, the subway, grocery stores, Starbucks, shopping. If you're tired of small boxy hotel rooms, give this place a try.

Having previously stayed in more up market establishments we were very pleased to find the Avanshell which at less than half the price is fantastic value. Rooms are very big and clean. Bathroom has in bath shower but it's powerful and everything works. Staff are very friendly and although at first it appears no wifi if you ask they give you a wifi unit to use for free! No rip off charges. Doesn't have all the amenities but everything you need is close by.

If you're looking for an excellent location (really close to a Metro station, close to the heart of the city, numerous great eating options close by), spacious and clean rooms, friendly service and good value for your yen, then the Avanshell Akasaka is going to be tough to beat.

The Avanshell is a great, spacious, friendly and very convenient hotel. Great area to stay. Very close to two subway stations and a great restaurant downstairs. Huge rooms and great value for money. Everything you need is supplied. This is my third stay and will be staying again soon.

My wife and I stayed here for just over a week! The room was fantastic! We are used to the small 30 sqm rooms in the flasher international hotels in Tokyo! The Avanshell room was 55 Sqms with a separate lounging area that gave us room to spread out on the hot humid summer nights! The air con was essential and really great! The room also had a convection oven!

It's location is great! Close to Akasaka station on the Chiyoda line. From there you can get anywhere. And nothing is too far away. There are other metro stations within an easy walk in less oppressive weather!

Being just of the Government district it has heaps of great restaurants and it's amazing after dark as millions of taxis prowl hoping for a jumbo fare from someone out later than the subway runs.

The area is upmarket Tokyo and lovely and quiet - very different to shinjuku area. The hotel is moderately priced and we reckon it would really suit families though I am not sure about the policy in terms of more beds in the room. There is certainly space.

Internet was a breeze. Reception gave us a wireless access point when we checked in. Logged on with all the devices and iMessaged and face timed with the kids and friends ! First class and included in the room charge!

If I was going back to Tokyo for business or pleasure I think the Avanshell is where we will be. The only downside is that it's not well known by taxi drivers etc!
