It was a beautiful clear blue Tokyo winter's day and we headed for the Temple. Upon arrival the peace was pervasive and calming even though The Temple and it surrounds were busy (but just enough not overly).
An island of peace and harmony in a bustling lively city. There was a Buddhist ceremony in progress in the main Temple, my son went in, and sat down. We watched the ceremony for 30 minutes WONDERFUL SOUL CLEANSING! Then we walked to the next area where one can purchase wonderful small meaningful momentos and the costs are VERY low I purchased 6 beautiful HAPPY mini Temple bells to give to my relatives back in Australia to spread the wonder .There is a very large incense well in the shape of a small Temple and filled with sand in front of this building, Using an honor system a 100 yen will buy you a bunch of incense sticks they have a gas lighting unit next to the well . The idea is to light the sticks insert them into the sand and pray a little for whatever you might want or need whilst bathing in the incense smoke . there is a lot of smoke due to all the other lighted incenses so one truly can have an incense bath!! VERY NICE! apparently directing the smoke with hand actions to say a head ache or pain area will help in healing. I DID THAT anyway HAVE FAITH!! The photo opportunity of the temple with Tokyo tower behind against bright blue sky is a must . BTW to the right of this you will notice row upon row of little stone statues very brightly dressed adjacent to a small temple a lovely little Tokyo lady speaking perfect English explained this was a temple to little babies who had died at birth or before I CRIED !! BUT how wonderful a true reflection of how Japanese people are courteous caring Make sure you obtain the English pamphlet explaining all about the temple and its surrounds HAVE FUN
