The Dai-Ichi remains our favorite Tokyo hotel and one of our two or three favorites anywhere. This was the fourth or fifth time we have stayed there. The staff is knowledgeable and helpful and speak good English. The location is excellent - two short blocks from the JR Shimbashi station and the Ginza subway line and a little further from the Hibiya subway line. It is a short walk to the south end of the Ginza as well. There are plenty of restaurants nearby. The rooms are large and comfortable. A few people have complained about them, but ours was in excellent condition and spotlessly clean. The internet service is free and speedy - about 20 Mb/sec upstream and downstream. The brass room keys are quaint - but they are in keeping with the 19th century France theme of the decor. In Japan nobody is going to steal your belongings, so the latest lock technology is not really necessary. We have tried the French and sushi restaurants. Both are very good. The top floor lounge has a spectacular view to the north and east. The second floor lounge is at track level for the JR metropolitan lines (Yamanote and others) and the Shinkansen. For train lovers, there are very few places that can match it and for everybody else it is interesting and unusual. Overall, highly recommended.
