“Nice Place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 19, 2014

Im more a function over form kinda traveller but I have to say this place has a very pleasant "feeling" about it. The staff are kind, friendly and helpful as they to can be, at least to the depth of their individual abilities. I would stay here again and enjoyed my time there. Be advised though, do a calculation of your home currency to the JPY before you order or you might find a shock on your statements.

The rooms are tidy, clean, and functional. The windowed shower was a treat for the pigeons Im sure but for the more modest bird watcher the blinds do close. The shower heads on the wall were awesome for a bad back after a long work day.

All in all it was a very enjoyable stay and if your a novice Scotch Connoisseur, grab a cigar a good cigar and head across the street (The other side of the OKura) and check out the Highland Bar.

Room Tip: Not sure but my rooms were nice.

One walks around the main hall, or enter the Orchid bar and he/she could image meeting Grace Kelly, King Faruk, Giovanni Agnelli..., This hotel represents the past, a beautifully elegant, charming, discreet past, once that it is nowadays almost impossible to find, even in super luxury modern 5 stars hotel, where the clients go around in horrible flip-flops, ugly shorts and t-shirts, and where everything is flashy and fashionable.
Well here you will find none of this, no modern toilettes, no electronic gadgets to open the curtains from the bed, but simply everything you need, in a super cool atmosphere and with possibly the best service in the world. Don't forget that the restaurants are among the best in all of Japan, in particular the Teppanyaki (sazanka) and the Sushi.
I pray Okura will remain like this forever

The Okura is not for everyone but I really like the Mad Men decor and the kimono attired lift ladies. It isn't another cookie cutter international luxury hotel but a Japanese luxury hotel. We booked through LHW leaders club which supposedly guarantees an upgrade on arrival subject to availability. We had to be a bit firm about this as it would definitely not have been offered but the deal was honoured and we were upgraded to suites on both visits. The hotel is really two hotels with the Honkan, main building, and the South Wing which will be demolished and rebuilt ahead of the Tokyo Olympics. The rooms are not standard and decor depends very much on when it was refurbished. There are several vintages. The rooms (suites) we had in the main building were very comfortable with defined workspaces and large bathrooms. Nothing is cutting edge design but definitely Japanese with Toto washlets and screens on the windows resembling traditional sliding screens. Amenities are Shiseido. Food is eye wateringly expensive and the complimentary leaders club breakfast consisting of a couple of pieces of white spongy bread is definitely not 5 stars but there is something almost exotic about eating food from the 1960s although the full priced buffet breakfast was far more tempting. The location, adjacent to the US embassy is very quiet but not so convenient for sight seeing without hopping in a cab. But it is definitely a bit of an oasis in this busy city.

Room Tip: You will get the room you have booked so research well.

Very disappointing, this hotel do not deserve to be a Leading hotel. No charm, 800 rooms and very expensive for what you get. The rooms are similar to basic Sheraton rooms. Same price as the Palace Hotel which is amazing compared to Okura.

Not a very high rise building but its a big hotel with lot of wings. All the wings are well connected but still very separate from each other. The rooms are very clean and maintained. The breakfast was good and well spread. The service was good. The hotel is located near the happening places in Tokyo.

Room Tip: Go for higher floor

If you're looking for a glam modern high rise hotel, this is not the place for you. If you are looking for a classic feel, great service, and an amazing sushi bar right downstairs then stay here. Rooms were excellent, spacious and clean. Location is on the quiet side and financial-district-y so not much to do after hours here. The concierge really bends over backwards to supply your needs and that did not go unnoticed. There is a pretty park nearby too where one can go for a walk or jog. Gym facilities were very nice and well kept, however, be warned that it costs about $35/pp extra per day.

At first, we were a bit disappointed as the swimming pool was not yet open (in late June), and there were a couple of small problems with the room. When I signaled this, we were kindly offered a better and very nice room. Throughout our stay, all staff were extremely friendly and helpful. We did not try breakfast or dining but did very much enjoy the hotel's decoration and comfort. A couple of metro stations lie just downhill, making it easy to access livelier areas of Tokyo.
