“Nice, Quiet Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 8, 2012

Enjoyed my stay at the Okura, but got off to a rough start. Had to change rooms after checking in, as the first did not appear to have been cleaned properly, and took a long time for the staff to retrieve my luggage and switch rooms. Glad I changed, though, as the bathroom in the second room appeared to be much larger, with a separate shower/bath combination.

Upon departure, took the bus back to Narita, and was all a very smooth and comfortable trip. Only had to make 1-2 stops.

Overall, the Hotel Okura Tokyo is a nice enough hotel. The staff was very friendly, attentive and helpful. The buffet breakfast was excellent, and overlooking a nice garden area. I will stay here again if/when I travel to Tokyo in the future.

This was our first visit to Japan. We enjoyed every second and minute of our stay there. The Okura staff are very professional and nice. The lobby is is beautiful. It is very obvious the staff have pride in their hotel. The hotel is very clean. The room we stayed is nice and the bathrooms are amazing! The breakfast buffet was our favorite. We ate there the whole week we stayed at the Okura. We would like to go back.

If you want classy Japanese service, you cannot beat Hotel Okura Tokyo. The rooms are not flashy. The lobby is one of the most tasteful spaces you'll find. It's no wonder that it is a kind second home for many celebrities. It is right next to the American Embassy. Short walk from a number of major office buildings including Shiroyama Tower, ARK Mori and Izumi Garden Tower. Not the Grand Hyatt type of clientele but more for old set crowd.

Room Tip: There are some rooms with a Japanese garden view.

This was my first visit to Japan. When you visit a country for the first time the first impression is very important for the perception of the country. Since my check-in the staff of Okura hotel managed to form a positive image of its hotel and gave a good start for the discovery of the country. The service and breakfasts were on a necessary good level. I strongly recommend this hotel for those who visit Tokyo.

We stayed at the Hotel Okura Tokyo primarily because we had done so in the distant past, the tangible sense of calm and understated 60's decor in the public spaces, and because the price compared favorably with other hotels of the same standard.
The unique Japanese sense of calm was certainly still there, as was the excellent service. However, don't expect a modern sleek hotel experience....this is more like a luxurious steam train than a shinkansen!
The room decor is certainly from the 60's, strange incidental chairs with orange and red stripes and (almost) art deco lamps. The bed was very comfortable though and room fittings, quite adequate. However, drawer space was minimal. This was not the case in all rooms, as we changed rooms after one day due to the tiny bathroom in the first of our rooms. Suggest you inspect your room before accepting it as the bathroom size varies significantly. In our case, the second room we occupied had an excellent, large bathroom.
The lack of hotel wi-fi was a real surprise for this level of hotel, but if you have a lap top you can connect by room supplied cable. They offered a wi-fi router at Yen 1500 per day.
Another surprise was the lack of an la carte breakfast.Though you could get via room service. Both hotel wings have very pleasant breakfast cafes, but only serve a buffet at over Yen 3000 each. This extra Yen 6000 per day should be considered when comparing the Okura room rates to others.
The location of the hotel is great, though in a relatively quiet neighbourhood area and surrounded by some stunning new buildings. Also, it is the first stop on one Limousine Bus route from Narita airport, making access to and from the airport, more convenient.
Overall it was a very comfortable stay, and we still loved the public spaces, especially in the Main wing.

Room Tip: Check out your room before moving in, especially the bathroom size. Try to get a deal with breakfas...

Pros: very friendly staff (a lot were standing around, greeting people), quiet location, hotel didn't seem too busy (so it was quiet), huge bed, clean rooms (cleaning service comes in the morning, then again in the early evening to change towels), room service was fast

Cons: everything costs extra (gym was over 3100 yen to use per day), small fridge (stuffed with all the items that costs extra, no room to store your own items), air conditioning was very poor, all the restaurants were pricy (to be expected)

We just returned from our 1st visit to Japan. My husband, daughters (16, 12) and I stayed at the Hotel Okura Tokyo for one week. It was the perfect choice as it is a grand luxury hotel with every amenity you can think of. We had two adjoining rooms which were quite large each with two full sized beds and large bathrooms in the South Wing. The staff is wonderful and while the hotel has many guests, the bell service, doorman and front desk all were incredibly friendly, greeting us after we returned daily and asking our about day. The concierge was so helpful and knowledgable and helped us book an afternoon at Kabuki, provided us with ideas for navigating within the city and to the other cities on our trip. Tokyo is a very modern city and it was nice to have a home base that had all the conveniences of modern hotels but with a reminder of the beautiful Japanese culture and history. The coffee shop also has the most amazing "madeleine-like" cookies that come in various flavors. We loved them so much that we visited the Hotel Okura in Kyoto and stocked up to bring some home. They are not to be missed!

Room Tip: The beds are full size and you really need to have one per person unless traveling with small childr...
