Hotel is in a great location, about a 10minute walk away from the train station at Shinagawa which is only about 10 minutes away on the train from Tokyo Station. Hotel is a little dated BUT it is clean and staff are very helpful and friendly so I dont know what people complain about!
The gardens surrounding the hotel are beautiful and peaceful, great for a stroll at night as its very pretty when the lights are on.
We got a great deal and stayed in the Club Double Room which was clean, comfy and huge! Yes, not all rooms in Japan are small as so demonstrated here at the GPNT. Staying on the Club Floor meant we could access the Club Lounge so we got breakfast in the morning and snacks and drinks (juice, soft drink, beer etc) from there all day long. The lady in charge of the Club Lounge was extra helpful - I had an adaptor BUT it was a 3 prong one and all the outlets in our room & the lounge were all 2 prong outlets so she tracked down a 2 prong outlet for us which we were very thankful for as my laptop needed charging.
Room had free wired internet and wifi was only accessible in the lobby which was nice to sit to people watch. Bathroom was big and clean, shower was hot & had good pressure (which is important to me). We had a view of the Tokyo Tower which we enjoyed looking at from our balcony. Bed was HUGE and very comfy. Problem was the pillows. Like pretty much all the hotels we stayed in in Japan, they were very hard so gave me neck pains and headaches (one side is traditional Japanese pillow of buckwheat and the other side of the pillow is hard rubbery "western" style)
Plenty of restaurants in the hotel and all around the hotel. Like all train stations in Japan, it has lots of places to eat and theres a shopping complex opposite the train station that has many more restaurants. On the walk back to the hotel from the train station, there is a an Outback Steakhouse (yummy!), TGI Fridays and and many more.
We caught the train to Haneda International Airport from here which was quick, cheap and easy to do so there is no need to take a shuttle bus or taxi there. We would recommend to others to stay here as its lovely and great vallue for money.
Word of advice - take a taxi from the train station as the hotel is up a hill and its a trek when you have luggage. Taxi is only about $7 (and make sure you specify The Grand Prince New Takanawa as there are 4 Prince Hotels next to each other)
Also, staff are friendly but strict - we had a flight at 11pm and asked if we could check out a little later than the checkout time (which we were confused as to what it was - in the room info file it said 12noon and desk said it was 11am). We only wanted to check out at 1pm (as we thought it was noon) BUT were firmly but friendly told "no, checkout is 11am". We left our bags there so we could explore more of Tokyo for some hours.
AND for those with dogs, this is a dog friendly hotel. They have rooms where you can stay with your dog and also have a doggy day care where you can leave your beloved furry friend whilst you go our touring or have work meetings.
