“Good quality but very expensive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 17, 2014

Very good hotel near Shinagawa station in Tokyo, well suited for business with comfortable room and good amenities, but very expensive for the quality. Room size if average and the gym is very small. The breakfast is good quality and the finishes and the detais are very nice but probably not worth the price.

Room Tip: The highest floor the better. The views are not amazing but worth enough

We stayed here recently at the start and the end of a 7 night holiday in Japan. The hotel is well, designed, modern and very well kept. The staff are very pleasant. It is also very well located for JR transport being a few 100m from Shinagawa (for local, airport and Shinkansen trains). We had JR passes so this was fantastic for us.

My only criticism of the hotel is that the classic double room actually only has 3/4 size double beds which are not really suitable for two people. We were 'upgraded' both times so this didn't turn out to be an issue. However, on the 2nd stay we had to wait 10 minutes for our 'upgraded' room. The reception thought it was ok to make us wait as they were 'upgrading' us. However it didn't really feel like an 'upgrade' to us as we had booked a double room and there were two people on the reservation.

Room Tip: Avoid classic double room

As others have mentioned, the service in Tokyo is in general, extremely kind and accommodating. No exception at this hotel. Every staff member I encountered was fantastic. Special shout out to the female concierge who helped us book at the Robot Restaurant. She also helped me with a couple of other things during my stay. She is just wonderful.
Breakfast in the hotel is about $30 USD, but very nice. Good selection of western and Japanese cuisine, fresh juices, fruits, vegetables and baked goods. The area where you eat breakfast is really quiet, and has a lovely serene atmosphere.
The room itself had an upscale feel. Very comfortable beds and nice bath products.
Convenient location to Shinagawa station. There's a 7-11 and a coffee shop located right outside the hotel on your way to the station which was nice to have when I wanted a quick snack.
Thanks for a great stay! I hope to return one day.

I was initially assigned a classic room. That room is not worth the five star I gave. However, due to some noise issues from the shinagawa station, I was upgraded to a king deluxe room. This room is way better than the classic one. So if you book a room at this hotel, I would recommend you to avoid classic rooms. View from the bath is fantastic. Service is good at this hotel. But who does not offer good service in Tokyo? The hotel is connected to Shinagawa station. If you are using JR to travel around Tokyo then it is fine. But there is no Tokyo Metro here. Overall, I like the hotel.

My husband and I stayed at The Strings the 2 last days of our 2 weeks in Japan ! when we arrived first in Tokyo we stayed in a hotel in Shinjuku , but for the last days we decided to stay in The Strings for being adjacent to Shinagawa Station ! and the location is really exceptional !! we arrived from Kyoto by Shinkansen , and a few minutes later we were at the hotel ! I have seen people complainig that it is hard to find the hotel , but in Japan people are very kind to give information , then just ask !! furthermore, in the hotel reservation everything is explained !
The hotel is beautifully decorated , wonderful view from our room on 32 floor , but it was the smallest room we had in Japan !Breakfast was very expensive, and the set menus of the restaurant as well , but just at the entrance of the Shinagawa station is a branch ot the american Dean and Deluca Delicatessen , where we bought delicious cheeses , fruits , terrine de campagne and wine and had a delicious dinner in our room !! another must is the supermarket at Isedan magazine , also at hte entrance of the station , where one can find every western products !! Front desk could be more corteous , we have an Gold Ambassador Card , and even so we didn´t have a late checkout at the time that would be good for us ! everything around this region in Tokyo is super , modern and beautiful , and we liked it very much !

Extremely convenient to get to, whether you're arriving from Haneda or Narita, as it's literally adjacent to Shinagawa station, which has trains directly to and from both airports. Plenty of shops and restaurants in and around. Peak hour traffic can be a bit daunting, but that's typical of central Tokyo anyway. Rooms were good by Tokyo standards, but breakfast was slightly disappointing.
