“Business Hotel with Great Service”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2013

Stayed here for 3 nights and was very satisfied with the room and service. As you would expect for Tokyo the rooms are not large but the bed was very comfortable. The aircon however did not seem to get cold enough but was adequate. Good HD TV in the room and was very clean and everything worked. The hotel gym is also quite small can cannot take more that 7-8 people at a time. The equipment is OK. Gym is open 24 hours. The hotel is next to my office in Tokyo so was very convenient. Will stay again on business.

I have been here in July 2013, March 2013 and December 2012. It came highly recommended from coworkers that had been here previously and everyone from our company that have come since have come to the same conclusion. It is an excellent hotel. The rooms are very big, clean and look great. The shower/bathroom is very large and the hotel allows you to use their fitness room shower if you arrive very early in the morning and/or depart late at night. The location is essentially right on top of Shinagawa train station so going to/from Haneda/Narita or anywhere else in Tokyo is very convenient. The breakfast buffet is very good, my favorite is the amazingly fresh bread. There used to be an omelette bar included, but this has changed this year and is no longer included (not a big deal). There is a 7-Eleven on the 2nd floor of the elevator to the hotel which has an ATM and anything else you may need. The staff is super friendly and I know that I will keep coming back here again and again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing Rainbow bridge. The lobby is on the 26th floor, so it doesn't matter what...

I had an excellent stay at this hotel and would gladly stay here again if I return to Tokyo. The main reason is the outstanding service. On arrival at the bus station, someone from the hotel greeted us and walked us to the hotel. Check in was quick. There was no problem communicating in English. The concierge service was wonderful. Both Ben and Kato, were extremely helpful in answering questions and even went as far as to show us photographs and images from google maps about specific sights. When I asked about vegetarian food, I was only expecting to receive some recommendations. I, however, also received a card written in Japanese to present at restaurants explaining that I'm vegetarian but can eat eggs and cheese. This eas a small detail, but I appreciated the extra consideration.

The hotel itself is quiet, not flashy. The room was small but not surprising based on the location. The bathroom was larger than expected. My only criticism is what was called a king bed, was certainly not one. Wifi was excellent.

The location was great- easy access to the train and subways. Many nearby restaurants.

We stayed for three nights in March 2013. The location is great as it's very close to Shinagawa's Shinkansen station. The elevator from the plaza level to the 26th floor lobby is very fast. The staff members all speak English well and provided great service. One day we thought we lost our security card and they quickly came up with us to open the door. We booked the airport shuttle through the concierge and our luggage was brought down to the curb and the bellmen waited with us until the shuttle came.

The lobby is really modern, with a water feature, open dining area, a separate open area for weddings. We saw a number of weddings during our stay and enjoyed their music. Our room is spacious and well appointed. We went for breakfast each morning and it was a great variety of western food, with a few Asian dishes (congee with scallops, miso soup). Great assortment of fruit and drinks.

The surrounding area is full of restaurants, but shopping is limited. The area seems to be more of an office district and there's only a small department store on the other side of the Shinagawa station from Strings - Wings department store. It's not very impressive. Better shopping can be had in Shibuya which is just a few JR stations away.

Dear Pooky29,

Thank you for your detailed 5 star review, it will be very useful for the TA community and we have shared it with our team and we are particularly pleased to hear that you enjoyed our new breakfast and our service.

Location wise, Shinagawa area has over 400 restaurants and bars within a short walk of the station and while the shopping is limited Tokyo's many spread out different shopping districts are a short train ride away from us.

Thank you again and we look forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

Kind regards,

Ben Johnson

Being first timers in Tokyo, we decided to stay at this hotel as it's located within the Shinagawa Station which is super convenient if you travel by train from the airport. Once you arrive to the station, you just follow the signs (in English as well) and within 5 minutes of comfortable walk - without stairs - you'll be in the hotel.

Don't worry about the breakfast (or lunch) as you'll find a "Dean & Deluca" right at the bottom of the hotel and many other places nearby

The room was well decorated, facing the station but no problems with any noise whatsoever. It has large windows with fantastic views of the city.

Fitness room is located on the lobby (26th floor) and works 24/7. Small but modern and again large windows with nice views.

The entire staff is extremely helpful with a good level of English and knowledge of the city in case Ben (the Australian concierge) is not available.

Spent 3 days at The Strings. The room size was great, the location is tops, with easy access via Narita Express direct to Shinagawa Station, then a quick 10minute walk to the hotel. The lobby is on the 26th floor and everyone there speaks excellent English. The best thing about the hotel was Ben Johnson the Concierge. He was most helpful in organising tours (which was booked out), recommending restaurants, making reservations for restaurants, all according to your budget. It was the best 3 days in Tokyo we could have asked for, despite the miserable rain on Day 1. Oh, and the internet was free for multiple gadgets, which is a real bonus in Japan.

As others have mentioned, this hotel is located on top of a business building. 5 minutes walk away from Shinagawa station, 15 minutes train ride away from Haneda airport and around 20 minuts away from most landmark stations. Of course we met with Concierge Ben whom greeted us quite courteously.

Rooms were a bit small but acceptable for Tokyo standards, amazing view as you see panoramic views of Shinagawa and Tokyo Bay. Rooms are quite modern, only 10 years ago. Bathroom wet zone was incredible with a Jacuzzi bath, next to the window looking down at Shinagawa station. I enjoyed the sight and sound of the busy train station as I showered every morning. Rooms can get quite dark in the evening.

Most guests are business travellers so expect business attire in the lobby and lounge. I saw some wedding banquets going on too but does not crowd the foyer. There is a lack of a pool or outdoor terrace, if you were hoping to get relaxed in the sunshine, you are out of luck.

The only thing I have to complain about is power outlets, I arrived in my room with almost every utility unplugged. The reason being? They don't have enough sockets and want you to decide which is more important, your desk lamp, the iPod docking station or your own charger. There is only 1 plug near the desk. The water boiler was also stored secretly away in a cabinet which was quite a surprise.
