We've stayed in other Incontinentals (Sydney, etc.) and enjoy the ambiance and friendliness of the club-level service. My wife and I stayed at the Ana in a junior suite on the 34th floor at a very good rate and enjoyed great views of Tokyo. The room provided terrific amenities including a first class bath, multiple TV's, super-comfortable bed, etc.

Best of all was the staff, especially in the club. Multi-national, friendly and extremly customer oriented. The club even has a first-class business conference room that I used for meetings--very convenient. It just went through a renovation and they hit a home run with style, comfort, space, etc.

The location in Tokyo is excellent. Close to the American embassy, walking distance to Roppongi and the Gov't center., a great outdoor plaza with lots of restaurants adjacent to the hotel. Short cab rides to Tokyo and Shinagawa stations.

Would recommend this hotel in a heartbeat. If you absolutely need a pool, know that it is outdoors and only open in the summer. Wasn't a big deal for us.

Stayed here for 3 nights as part of a recent Japan trip. Hotel is very close to a subway station, however, to get to/from the actual train to the hotel subway exit is a good 500+ meters and about a 5 minute walk. Very nice lobby, and very busy. The hotel was always bustling with activity while we were there. Stayed in a club room on the 31st floor and got a nice view of the city. Club lounge was nice, and a decent breakfast was provided (if you have lounge access of course). Rooms were a a fair size for Japan, very nice bathroom with a TV in the bath area. Clean rooms that were nicely appointed. Lady at checkout was a little gruff, but other than that, no problems.

As this was a first visit to Tokyo, many factors contributed to the choice of ANA Intercontinental. First was location: the hotel is centrally located, although it is mainly a business area. They were running some special prices, which was very helpful, and finally, they are a familiar brand.

First positive was the fact the Narita Bus stop at the hotel. Was good that this was a household name. Reception staff were efficient and gave us a room on the 19th floor, which had an amazing view of Roppongi Hills. The room itself is pretty small, but I guess this was to be expected from Tokyo. Nevertheless, the furniture and decoration were very tasteful, like a typical Intercontinental room. Bathroom was nice and featured the famous hi-tech toilet seat, which was very exciting for me!

The lobby area is airy and very beautiful, in an 80s kind of way. The hotel also features an outdoor swimming pool, which must be quite rare for Tokyo. Although it wasn't included in our rate, we decided to fork out the JPY 3000 for breakfast/brunch on Sunday and were very impressed with the choice and quality. Definitely recommeded if you're very hungry.

Location is very good, with a Ginza line subway stop just outside, taking you to Ginza and Shinjuku. The closest area to walk to is Roppongi, about a 15 minute walk and worth checking out for the modern art museum, some nice restaurants (Gonpachi - a must! Lots of fun and reasonably priced, great food and Joel Robuchon, the very expensive french/asian fusion chef) and the view from Roppongi Tower.

Finally, the staff is very friendly. Concierge seems to be a bit complicated, as a simple request to book a restaurant is made to look very complicated and ceremonial.

Would definitely recommend and will be going back, once the Yen/GBP rate comes down.

We just returned from Japan and while we were in Tokyo we stayed on the Club Level of the ANA Intercontinental. It was an excellent choice. The club level room costs not much more than a regular room, but was much larger and included a small living area. Full breakfast in the club lounge was included with as much coffee as you could ever want. In the evening, they had a good selection of appetizers and wine available for patrons. Our room had a spectacular view over the city. We were able to use computers in the club lounge and the staff in the lounge and in the hotel were very hospitable. We felt like the hotel was a real bargain.

OVERALL: While there are some luxurious touches here and there, this hotel feels tired and old. The lobby area is inviting with its open ceilings, but once you get into your room, claustraphobia sets in. The location is central, but could be a bit deceiving if you're expecting to walk right off the train platform to your hotel.

ROOM (booked the cheapest rate available): Nothing to write home about. Size of the room is ok for central Tokyo, not small but not exactly big either; good size for 2, but will feel crowded with 3 adults. The LCD TV was on the smaller side (probably 19"), expected more for this class of hotel. The views are hit or miss, as the lower floor views will be blocked by the surrounding buildings or expressway... so book/request a high floor if you can. Bathroom, fixtures and furniture are at least 10 years old and could use some updating.

DINING: only ate at the breakfast buffet (included in rate we found), very good selection of Japanese and Western food. Expensive if you pay separate (3000+ yen), but probably worth it if you're extremely hungry. Other dining options seemed ridiculously expensive, probably catering to tourists who are unwilling to venture outside the area.

LOCATION: The subway entrance/exit (Tameike-Sanno Station) is right next to the hotel, but the actual subway platform is a good hike (5+ min at a brisk Tokyo pace)... might be a bit taxing if you plan on dragging around a lot of baggage. The good news is you have direct access to the Ginza Subway line, great for tourists wanting to see Shibuya, Harajuku (Omotesando), Ginza, Odaiba (via Shimbashi) or Asakusa. Also on the up side, limousine buses bound for both airports (Haneda and Narita) stop at the hotel, making for an easy trip to/from. If you plan on taking a Hato Bus tour, they pick-up/drop-off at this hotel as well.
