“Get off of Shinkansen, drop off the luggage, and go!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2012

Shinagawa is one of the two stations in Tokyo that the Shinkansen bullet train stops. It's also on the Yamanote JR circular line that reaches to many highlights in Tokyo such as Shibuya, Shinjuku, Akihabara, and Harajuku. This hotel is about five minutes walk from Shinagawa station, so the access and time saved was significant. I was able to literally walk out of Shinkansen, check in, and started the night out in Tokyo.

The hotel has been newly renovated, and the service focuses on sleeping, rather than spas or in-house shops. The rooms are simple, clean, and average size for Tokyo (a bit small). Once you walk out, though, there are many restaurants, bakery, shops, an aquarium (!), movie theaters, right there, and train takes you to lots more. The front clerk was a bit unfriendly, but spoke pretty good English. I got a good rate with advanced reservation (a few months before the stay) on the internet. Will stay there again.

I loved the location being close to famous SHINAGAWA station. Although room size was bit smaller and no room service (for general support), I still like the hotel. Internet connection was high speed and hotel staff was very courteous. I would have loved some in house hotel activities for entertainment however no major complaints.

Room Tip: Check room size before check inn..

The hotel is very near the Shinagawa station and it has access to many train lines in Tokyo. Shinagawa is a Shinkansen station too, so it's very good if you have to catch an early train (7am in our case) out.
We booked a semi double room so we already expected it to be small so no issue there. There's a supermarket (called "Takanawa Wing") on the way from Shinagawa station to the hotel where we bought half-priced food about 1hr before closing. There's also a 7-11 and McDonald's next to the hotel as well.

Located right behind the Shinagawa Prince hotel, the Takanawa Keikyu sports one of the best locations in the Shinagawa area. Shingawa is an underappreciated area, with restaurants and shops and even movie theaters all within walking distance of the station.

In the first floor of the hotel there is an Outback steakhouse and a Denny's style diner, Royal Host, serving meals until early in the morning. (They close for a few hours in the morning but serve western and Japanese-style breakfasts.) McDonald's is just a couple minute walk down the hill.

I stayed in a large twin room with two double-sized beds, a flat-screen TV and a host of terrific amenities (including Shiseido beauty products). I ended up bringing back meals from the nearby department store (basement floor) Wing Takanawa, which features discounted eats after 8 P.M.

For those of you who can't wait that long, there are western-style eateries within the next-door Prince hotels complex, a TGI Fridays in the sister hotel (Pacific Meridien, right across the street), and of course dozens of Japanese restaurants along the two streets in front of Shinagawa station. In fact, if you're adventurous and want to eat what the locals eat, then try visiting the ramen shop alley that runs under the Shinagawa Keikyu train tracks. It's noisy, but the noodles there can't be beat.

All in all, a quiet room, good value for the money, and a convenient location: strongly recommended.
