“Incredibly creative, amazing food and experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 28, 2014

As has been amply written, the food at Takazawa is absolutely amazing. It is an incredible fusion of japanese and western cousine that leaves you wanting more. The service is top notch, with friendly staff (not only Akiko and the chef, but all the sous-chefs as well) and a great ambiance. You definitely get value for your money here. A must in Tokyo.

“Inspiring Gastronomic Theater”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 12, 2014

We had an amazing dinner at Takazawa. The communication from Akiko was excellent, both prior to and during the meal. The atmosphere was both gracious and refined. As mentioned in prior reviews, the food is very imaginative, both in ingredients and preparation. The wine pairings were also very creative. It was a truly amazing experience, one that left us exhilarated and satisfied.

If you are only interested in authentic regional cuisine, then you should consider if this is the right choice. The food is both beautiful and delicious, but it is a style unique to Chef Takazawa. Also, it is very expensive - even by Tokyo standards, particularly if you choose the full menu and wine pairings. Takazawa was the only restaurant during our month in Japan that added a service charge to the bill, and the wine pairing was particularly expensive, bringing the total cost to over $1,000 USD.

For us, it was worth it. We very much enjoyed the evening we spent with Chef Takazawa and Akiko, as it was one of our all-time favorite dining experiences.

“This Is Why I Flew To Japan!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 11, 2014

So there are sometimes you go to a place with high expectations and then those expectations are still blown away, this is one of those places! Everything, and I mean EVERYTHING was THE BEST! So I didn't know he was his own SOMM, but that's really great because his pairs have been some of the best I've ever had.

So make sure you get a seat, there are 10 of them. Here is what we had, but from what I understand it's very seasonal.

ENJOY YOUR IMAGINATION - Theme (All about the local / whats best)
Course 1: Ratatouille - He starts with his signature! So cool, and Akiko does an amazing job at explaining how to eat it "In One Bite" (hand motion to open mouth and close :) It was a great start to see something so visual taste so good.
Course 2: Vegetables Parfait: A delish tomato style soup served with a bendy straw (Needed and fun!) Stuff like this is memorable.
Course 3: Clam Chowder - I was worried about this, but he pulled it off with an amazing pairing of oyster and clams - really light broth - and still got the potatoes and onions in! Just Good.
Course 6: Candle Holder - Foie Gras - yes done as a candle - just creative - just fun - just good
Course 7: White truffles and egg were great, but its the only dish I had experienced before
Course 8: New York Steak - with a twist - TASTY TASTY TUNA with his own ketchup horseradish spread (FROM A TUBE) - BLOW YOUR MIND GOOD

Champagne style grapes were amazing and fun

Desert - Sweet Potato - was great

Service was great, even though they all have roles everyone is watching the tables and helps when they can. It an experience and it couldn't be pulled off in a bigger environment.

IF YOU GET A CHANCE, GO!

“A stunning experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 6, 2014

We recently had the pleasure of dining here, and the team exceeded all our expectations. The food was creative, interactive and stunning to look at. It was a culinary delight, especially with paired wines to match.

Akiko is a fun, witty and very accommodating host. Takazawa is amazing to watch in action and we loved how he greeted and farewelled us on arrival. The intimate size of the restaurant makes for a very memorable occasion. I hope to dine here again one day.

“Outstanding!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 2, 2014 via mobile

I wrote down "awesome", "amazing" and "delicate" throughout my notes from the evening. One definitely needs to work one's imagination, as Takazawa says is required, in order to not be surprised by his menu as not everything is as it seems. But it all works wonderfully! From oysters to lotus root to sashimi to scallops to pork to fois gras to lamb to beef to special blue cheese, it's all awesome.

The restaurant is small, reservations are difficult to come by and are required - drop ins are not accepted, nor reservations for one. This is probably the best restaurant you'll ever visit that is not Michelin starred. Pricey but totally worth it!
