“Excellent gastronomic experience, but a bit pricey”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 11, 2013

Our adult son and his girlfriend wanted to celebrate our visit to Tokyo, and she recommended this restaurant. It is located across the street from the Roppongi Hills Mall. This is no ordinary restaurant. Reservations is required at this very popular high end Italian restaurant. As soon as we were seated and relaxed the complimentary appetizers started coming. All five of us shared the appetizers, since we all wanted to experience the many exciting flavors. We ordered several bottles of wines that complemented the dishes we were enjoying. We also shared each of our main courses, because the portions were generous and the flavors of each of the dishes were terrific. When you dine at this restaurant you cannot rush your meal. You must savor the delicate flavors of each dish and complement it with good wine at a slow pace.
We completely enjoyed our experience at the restaurant and plan to return on our next visit to Tokyo. However, we will be going to Il Mulino of Westchester in White Plains, New York for dinner this weekend. We expect to have a similar gastronomic experience that we had in Tokyo.

“Our special place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2013 via mobile

This is the restaurant where we usually go for our anniversary or birthday celebration. It's not your regular type of Italian restaurant. The complimentary appetizers are being laid out on your table even before you order. The food is a bit on the expensive side but that is expected with this caliber of restaurant. I recommend sharing the dishes you order so you can taste a bit of everything with whoever you are with. The veal portions are a good size and quite rich so you will definitely leave satisfied. They offer a complimentary glass of grappa to cap off your meal. Well worth every yen spent.

“Excellent Italian with super fresh ingredients”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 8, 2012 via mobile

I've never come across a restaurant with so many specials - four starters and the same mains. And they all sounded so good. We plumped for the burrata starter which was light and creamy. The red snapper my client ate looked superb steamed in foil with a rich tomato sauce. My fresh pappardelle was a good a pasta as I can recall. There were breads and bruschetta and an amuse bouche even before we ordered so we never made it to dessert. It wasn't by any means cheap, but it was superb. Just a shame on a wed night it as mostly empty

“Heart of New York in Tokyo”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2012

I've always loved the Il Mulino in NY and now that the restaurant is in Tokyo, I love it!!
They serve the same parmeggian cheese, bruschetta and the eggplant/zucchini appetizer as they do in NY; their ragu pasta is delicious and full of UMAMI!
They now have private dining space for up to 6 people for special occasions.
Although it seems like the restaurant is for special occasions, I think it's a great date night with your hubby or a fun night out with the girls!

“High End Italian”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 11, 2012 via mobile

I really like Italian food though Il Mulino is a different experience to some of the more rustic neighborhood places in Tokyo. Il Mulino feels more like a special occasion or closing dinner restaurant. Dimly lit and quite formal with very polished service.

The flavors in the food are not subtle and the portions are generous (antipasto and cheese before you order is a meal in itself). You will feel well fed and very satisfied. Pastas are great but the specialty is the veal in a range of styles/ flavors.

What I imagine a New York power meal spot to be like.
