“Great Location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 12, 2013

My husband and I have just come back from a great holiday in Japan. This hotal is in a great location, close to railway, shops and restaurants. The room we had was on the 4th floor with a view to the street below. It was quiet, clean, comfortable, good value for money and my husband was fascinated with the ultra modern toilet with all its push buttons for bidet use & warming seat. The staff were friendly. The only one thing I could suggest is to do your research on things to do and tours available as there was only one tour brochure for Mt Fuji and City Tour. They dont seem to promote other attractions like Disneyland or the Zoo etc.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights post-cruise. We were very satisfied with the price and location.

The hotel is located two blocks off the main shopping street in the Ginza area. It is right next to Ginza-Itachome metro station; however, the line that goes through that station will not take you to most of the places you want to go in Tokyo. Head instead to the Ginza metro station, and you will have access to all the major subway lines and stops. In addition, you can easily walk to Tokyo station (15 minutes) for the connection to the airport or other destinations in Japan.

There are two mini-marts directly across the street for snacks, wine, beer and coffee. There is a 24 hour McDonalds around the corner past the Sofitel.

The front-desk staff speak limited English, but it is enough for most hotel transactions.

The room is perfectly adequate, spotlessly clean, and has a minibar/fridge. There is free wifi throughout the hotel including the rooms.

The hotel will happily hold your bags for you if your room isn't ready, and on your departure day as well if you are not leaving the city until later in the day.

We were very pleased with this hotel, and will stay here again if we come back to Tokyo.

My wife and I stood here for a week. The room is very small but clean and cozy. It has sort of a 1960's retro feel to it. Actually, I think the furniture is still the original 60's furniture. We had to prop our suitcases on a couple of chairs that were in the room. Because I have a bad back, the king bed was to my liking, very firm. My wife thought it was a little too hard. The pillows were also to my liking, thick and firm. Again, a bit too much for my wife. The bathroom has very little shelf space to place your personal items, but we managed ok since we have hanging toiletry travel kits. The hotel provides liquid dispensers in the bath/shower which contain body wash, shampoo and conditioner. It's nothing high-end but gets the job done. The toilet is a robot! It has power butt hot water wash and bidet power feature with heated seat, lol. Be ready for an experience if you've never used one of these.

The hotel staff are well, Japanese. That's to say that they are very polite, eager to help overall very nice. They do speak some English, so it helped. Any call to the front desk will have your request at your door before you can say rumplestilskin. The front desk sells 1 and 2 day subway passes for the equivalent of about 6 and 9 U.S. dollars, respectively. They also have a map for money exchange locations, which were just a few blocks away. Across the street you'll find a couple of mini-marts where you can purchase anything from breakfast items, to beer for a very reasonable amount. The cashiers there got to know me on a personal level, haha.

Taxis are a little more expensive than Hong Kong, our 1st stop, but still cheaper than say, New York City. The restaurants near the hotel are good and convenient. The Ginza strip is but just 2-3 blocks away where you can do some high end shopping or you can just hop on the Ginza-Itchome (Orange) line to many destinations where you can find many other districts. We do recommend the Shibuya crossing in Shibuya. It's the world’s busiest crosswalk with an estimated 1 million people crossing each day. Also check out the Harajuku area where you can shop for bargains and see all of the Harajuku girls and their cool clothes.

Although the room is small, but the location is excellent and service us good. Also the room is very clean. They prepare everything you may need in the bathroom. I will definately come back and stay at this hotel next time!

Our trip to Japan ended in Tokyo mainly to do some shopping. We chose this hotel for the Ginza location. Unfortunately our stay coincided with Japan's Golden Week vacation period so hotel rooms at reasonable prices were impossible to find. However the Monterey Ginza was priced substantially below what we normally pay in the Ginza area (10K less Yen). And for this trip the price difference was greater.

The price is great but the twin room size of 200 square feet is limiting. Prior to this the smallest Tokyo hotel room we occupied was 275 square feet. What a difference! If you have more then 2 pieces of luggage you should ask the hotel to remove the small table and chair.

Ok done with the main issues; the great "price" and the bad "room size."

The service from the front desk to the maid service was excellent especially since communicating in English is never an issue at this hotel. The location is excellent especially for those who like shopping. Restaurants are in abundance including many in the department stores and office buildings. The bean bag pillow is very hard but I got use to it after the second night and it was a very quiet room. The maids kept our room very clean. However when cleaning they left most of the rooms open so cigarette smells daily entered our room. I don't know if hotel has non smoking floors...ask before booking if this is an issue.

Overall we would stay at this hotel again if price difference is similar to this trip.

Room Tip: Twin rooms are larger

Very Happy with our stay with Monterey Hotel Ginza.Centrally located with food and shops nearby.Room was on small side compared to western hotels, but was clean. Bedding somewhat harder that what we are used to at home. An embarrasing smell in bathroom left by previous occupant was quickly sorted, but should have been recognised prior to our arrival. Staff were friendly and very willing to help. We would recommend hotel Monterey to others to stay at in Ginza.

Reasonably priced, clean, and a great central location. Near the tokyo central train station and there are also many small, fun restaurants in the area. The ginza area is a bit more upscale, so if you are backpacking, it may not be what you are looking for. However, it is a great jumping off point in central Tokyo.
