“Molecular madness, fantastic fun”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2013

Great spot for a celebration atop the Mandarin Oriental near Mitsukoshimae and Shin Ninhonbashi. Terrific fun with food, lots of creativity, good wine, friendly and informative chefs and while by no means inexpensive well worth every yen.
Location on the 38th floor is wonderful -- eye-candy both out the windows looking over Tokyo and on the plate before you.
Do not miss the toilets, almost worth the price of admission, but if you stayed there you'd definitely miss one of the world's fun times with the eight other people at the tapas bar.
Highly recommended, we'll be back!
20 courses, all bite-sized or a tad more and perfect amount in total. Satisfied, but not bloated. Those with giant-sized appetites might not end over-stuffed, but for those used to eating Japanese-sized meals, this is substantial without being even close to stupidly huge.
No waste, no want.

“Wonderful Dining Experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 15, 2013

The total experience was wonderful and special. The food was artfully displayed and delicious, the experience intimate even though the restaurant is a counter in a lounge area. If you can afford the cost, go for it.

“A Dining Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 19, 2013

This was probably the most special dining experience of our lives. The set menu is 14,000 yen per person and cocktails and drinks are an additional approximately 1,500 yen each. If you want to sit in the lounge afterwards for coffee and chocolates, that is additional, too, and not really worth the cost, nor necessary, as the meal itself is so amazing! All that being said, don't let the price put you off. It's definitely worth it for the experience! This is truly a dining experience. The restaurant seats only seven people. There are two seatings nightly. They take reservations two months in advance, so call as soon as you know your desired date because they do book up. Each set meal consists of about 28 courses. You sit around the preparation area, so you can watch the chefs prepare each course. As they serve each course, they explain how it was prepared and how to eat it. There is always an English speaking chef working. Each course is delicious and beautifully presented. The wait staff is very attentive. Smart casual clothing is fine. This is truly a fun experience, and not uncomfortably formal, despite the high price. You can see several videos of this restaurant on youtube.

“Something different and exciting”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 8, 2013

With very good food and lovely views Tapas Molecular Bar would get good grades even if it was just an ordinary restaurant. But this is no ordinary restaurant, it is something much more fun. In this restaurant the imaginative culinary arts is in focus, with cool cooking techniques, beautiful arrangements and taste sensations.

Without being too pretentious the friendly chefs serves a greater number of very different small dishes, where both eye and palate are challenged. The favorites dishes was those that turn out to be so much more than they look like, for example, a chocolate dessert that imitates an egg and lamb rack with injected sauce that tastes amazing. The chefs spoke good English and instructed us along the way and answered all questions.

We can highly recommend the restaurant. You will not regret it and you will not forget it.

“Cirque Du Soleil of Dining!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 26, 2013

If previous reviewers haven't convinced you yet to shell out the cash to experience Tapas Molecular Bar, then hopefully I can help: Just Go! You won't regret it.
My husband and I were absolutely blown away by this experience and he's not a man that's easily impressed, especially by degustations :|
We struggled to come up with a description because while there is indeed food involved, it was so much more than just dining. We were entertained, amused, surprised and educated, and all the while being fed some gobsmackingly good food. Hence, I decided to call Tapas Molecular Bar the Cirque Du Soleil of dining.
Is it worth the money? I believe so. You may get better value for money at other restaurants (ie - you may feel more full elsewhere) but you're really getting a unique experience. After 20 courses, I felt pretty full and my husband wasn't complaining of needing more food either, so if you are on the more ravenous side, I suggest having a snack beforehand or later.
Beverages aren't cheap and may end up costing as much as the degustation so be aware. The Mandarin is not a budget hotel by a long stretch. Totally recommended!
