“Loved the onsens”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 15, 2013 via mobile

Top notch onsens at this hotel. I couldn't believe it was in the middle of Tokyo. Awesome value for money. Breakfast was great but there were so many food choices outside, so probably should have only booked breakfast for one morning. Onsen experience was my favorite and the most memorable of my Japan trip. I went in this one every single day!

Dormy Inn is conveniently located at Hatchobori JR station. Frm Narita Airport, take the Nex to Tokyo Station, then take the Keiyo Line, 1 stop to Hatchobori. Exit gate B3/B4, some stairs to climb there. Dormy is located along the waterway, next to a police post. Look upwards for Dormy sign on a taller building.

Quiet neighbourhood with many convenience stores & several restaurants within walking distance. Disneyland is just 5 stations away on the Keiyo Line at Maihama Station. The rooms are compact but spacious enough, though the slightly bigger than super single size bed is a bit cramp for 2 adults.

However, the onsen experience made up for it. The ladies onsen was more crowded on weekends but almost empty on weekdays. After the onsen, the skin does feel silky & soft frm the nourishment of the minerals. The complimentary ramen supper was satisfying.

The only glitch about this place is that all the staff speak limited English. So do all your homework before going because nobody will understand you there.

Room Tip: We got 2 rooms side by side at the corner on the 10th floor, overlooking the waterways.

We chose this place as it's kind of hard to get a access to a 'real' onsen (water from natural hot spring, not just 'hot water' like a Sento). The other Dormy Inns in Tokyo don't have natural hot spring (aki may be mixed water or something).

Plus - natural onsen, large buffet breakfast (it may or may not be included in the price - it's worth Y1100), rooms with windows that open, close to metro, free shuttle to Tokyo Station, close proximity to Tsukiji, super fast LAN internet, 2 computers at lobby with internet, free ramen from 9.30 - 11, friendly staff (they have English speaking staff too for those who need it), free morning coffee, nice fluffy towels, relatively big rooms by Japanese standard.

Minus - location is a bit out of the way (even if it's just a few stops from Tokyo Station) and not really walking distance to night life so you're going to rely on taxi if you stay out after the metro has closed (also not many 'breakfast' options as other areas may have, you've only got 1 Lawsons nearby), the lifts are super slow, slightly dated decor (which makes the room look smaller too), paid wifi (we have our own wireless router so we don't have to pay), better booking bargains on the Japanese only website if you can understand Japanese booking systems (and if you book fast enough!) otherwise the prices on the English speaking sites are higher (but have more availability of rooms), no extra discount if you chose to be 'eco' friendly (like other Japanese hotels), onsen can get very busy in peak hours.

I gather they cater to salary men so they've gone out of their way to make sure there are lots of home options like the free ramen, shuttle bus, hearty breakfast etc.

Room Tip: Try a lower level room as the lifts are really slow.

Visit Hotel Dormy Inn in Tokyo - and get at relaxing nice time in the hotel’s hot spa on first floor…

The hotel’s rooms are a small but well equipped. The is a free shuttle bus service to Tokyo Station add further value to the package; and it’s place OK in Tokyo in regards to subways etc. So all in all – a very nice standard hotel for Tokyo standard….

So what makes this hotel so unique ?

It’s the in house onsen (hot spa) placed on the first floor – separate for men and women !!!
Beautiful decorated, nice bath facilities – and both indoor and outdoor. It’s totally zen relaxation to enjoy the warm spa in the nice surroundings – after and before a busy day as tourist in Tokyo. For that alone – you should visit Hotel Dormy Inn

PS the women's onsen requires a password to enter. The password is changed everyday, thus enhancing the security of the place.

Room Tip: Only go as a couple - the room are small !

the hotspring is excellent! especially after a full day of shopping in Tokyo. the free ramen was good too. the room was clean and the space is sufficient compare to the other hotels in Tokyo. it's just 1 min away from the JR station but it's not a tourist area without any shopping malls or attractions. the english capability of the staff was poor but they did try their best to communicate with the guests.

I stayed for just 1 night before going to Kyoto as the hotel offered a free ride to Tokyo station. The location was not bad but not very good. Room was new and clean. Hotel staff were nice. Check in and check out was fast. They also offered a free ramen at night but I didn't try. Onsen was really good one comparing with dormy inn asakusa.

We stayed here for 2 nights in a triple room. The room was a little small for three people and not much space to place your luggage, but it was still manageable. There's a bunk bed for two and a pull-out futon from under the bunk bed. The futon is more comfortable than the really traditional kind you get in ryokans as it has a cushioned base. But once you pull out the futon there is very little space to walk. Oh, one thing I have to mention is how the bunk beds have a tiny shelf with a charging point at the side, very convenient if you like using your phone in bed but you have to charge it.

In the room there's also a kitchen sink, a minifridge, an electric kettle, LCD TV, a desk, a coffee table, a settee, an airconditioning/heating unit and an air purifier. There is also free WiFi in the room, or if you prefer, computers with internet on the second floor of the building. The attached bathroom is basically the same small size you get in any hotel in this price range, nothing special to mention. Anyway, we didn't use the bathroom for bathing since there is an onsen.

They gave us 3 sets of a big towel, a small towel and a very baggy top and very baggy pants for use when you go to the onsen. If you're small in size I recommend you just wear your own clothes down to the onsen as there doesn't seem to be a restriction on that. The onsen itself is locked by a code you get from the reception, to prevent outsiders from using it. The onsen area is not big but it was very good. It has a sauna, an indoor hot spring and an outdoor hotspring (rotenburo). There are signs in Japanese beside the baths, telling you the indoor hotspring is good for your health, good for muscle and joint aches. The outdoor hotspring is said to be good for beauty, good for your skin. It also has a flatscreen TV that you can enjoy while soaking.

Previously I read online that the reception doesn't speak English very well but while we were there there was a very polite lady who spoke good English so we had no trouble.

Free ramen is available on the first floor restaurant from 9.30pm to 11pm, and it tastes good. There is a free shuttle operated by the hotel that fetches you to Tokyo Station. It is very convenient since it is a major station compared to Hatchobori Station (closest station of which the nearest exit is a really short walk to).
