“Toshi Center Hotel, Tokyo”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 12, 2013

When I first arrived at the Toshi Center Hotel, I was a bit disappointed as I thought it was situated far away from the city's attractions. However, was I surprised as it turned out the hotel was conveniently located within subway's reach of the many attractions in Tokyo such as Akihabara, Shinjuku, Shibuya, Asakusa and many more. If you arrive from Narita Airport don't take a taxi to the hotel as it will cost you some US$300. Take the limousine bus instead to Tokyo City Air Terminal and then only take a cab. This will cost around 60-70 dollars. What's more it is located within walking distance of the Imperial Palace. The rooms are a bit compact but for a fellow Asian with average Asian height it didn't seem a problem. All basic necessities are available and the service was top class. The staff spoke good English. I would recommend those on a simple non-lavish trip to stay at the hotel. There are stations everywhere for travel convenience in and outside Tokyo.

Few amenities. Little to no English spoken. Not even a drawer so I lived out of my suitcase for a week. Had to walk 10 minutes for access to most train lines and good choice of restaurants, or bus to airport. Used concierge at another hotel to book tours. A cafe on site charged inflated prices, even for Tokyo. Not even a sofa or comfy chair in lobby to use as common meeting/social apace.

The hotel is very clean. The front desk was very fast and English was spoken very well. The easiest way to get to the hotel is use the Airport Limousine Bus. For about $35, it runs from Narita to a hotel around the corner, Akasaka Excel Hotel. The bus takes about 1 hour and a half. The bus ticket counter is just after you exit the customs.immigration area. They accept credit cards.
I departed vis Haenda Airport and to avoid metro station changes, take a taxi to Hamamastucho station then take the monorail. Taxi is about 2000 Yen and the monorail is 470 Yen.
The hotel room is small, but, I think this is just Tokyo. The tv has 1 English channel - CNN INternational. You have to program the remote control to make it active. There is a direction card that explains it. The AC worked well. They have wired internet that worked really well. Instead of the TV, I used streaming internet for tv entertainment. Wake up calls were excellent. You can get a rate that includes breakfast - it is worth the adder. The buffet is very large and has a wide variety of food. The scrambled eggs are not USA style as they were very runny. Instead of hash browns, they have tater tots and french fries, kind f strange, but, OK.
It is an easy walk to the Imperial Palace and Diet building. The beds were low to the ground and were not very soft. The curtains were excellent to block out the light which is helpful for the time change.

For restaurants, the area around the Akasaka Excel hotel was good.

Nice business hotel in a quiet area. The only handicap I see is that Wi-Fi is only available at the lobby, but there's a free LAN connection for laptops at the room so if you have a laptop with you this is not a big problem. Very helpful service at the front desk.

First impression of the hotel room is very clean and tidy, and it's reasonable bedroom size. The bathroom is very clean, with the usual extras such as toothpaste, toothbrush, etc. however the bath tub is quite small. There is no wifi in the room however there in the lobby. If you have a laptop then you can use a cable to connect to the Internet. In front of the hotel there is a 24hr shop which is convenient. However there are reasonable price restaurants walking to the right from the hotel.

Fantastic. I moved here from a hotel (see other review) down the road 5 minutes away amidst the bright lights of Akasaka Mitsuke area. Excellent. Bigger room, better quality, way quieter, more private, operational fridge - excellent all round - as well as highly flexible in terms of checkin and checkout. I chose a single room - smoking rooms were the only available floor (most floors are non-smoking) - but even the smoking room wasn't so smoky - very tolerable I'd say.
For the price, quality and location it is impossible to complain - except the bed was slightly stiff. The English proficiency of the staff wasn't consistent - when I checked in it was easier to use Japanese - however since then the staff have all spoken English.
Importantly the sound-proofing of this hotel is much better than others - I think it may be because it may not be designed originally as a hotel and rather as an office block.
Very good indeed - and probably impossible to match for such a centrally placed and quality hotel.

Room Tip: North side facing rooms are the best bet, especially in summer. Dawn in Japan during summer starts a...

Stayed at the Toshi Center Hotel for five nights in a single room last week and only have good things to say about it.

First of all, you can't beat the price--I payed about US$ 70 per night, which in Tokyo is a steal. The hotel is located pretty much in the center of Tokyo, with easy access to Ginza, Shiodome, Shibuya and pretty much any place you might want to go. The hotel is on Prince-dori, and there are two different subway line on either end of the street--about 5-7 minute walk to either (just keep in mind that you often have to walk quite a bit once you get into the stations in general). On a nice day, you can easily walk to Raponggi or Shibuya. There are also a few restaurants on the street, and a convenience shop right across form the hotel.

The room was small, but not a uncomfortably so. Plenty of room for luggage, and it helps that it has a window with a nice view. The bed was comfortable on the firm side, and wired Internet was free and very reliable. Oddly, very few hotels in Tokyo have WiFi. Small but functional bathroom with a tub/shower combination. Small TV with only Japanese stations. Tea making stuff, but no coffee.

Reception staff spoke decent English, even though is is a very Japanese hotel and the majority of guest are Japanese. The breakfast at the hotel is about $16, but a nice variety of Western and Japanese food.

Overall, a really nice place for what you pay. I have stayed in some very high-end business hotels in Tokyo over the years, but on my own dime, this one is totally fine. Would highly recommend it for the budget-oriented traveler.

By the way, if you take the Limousine Bus from Narita, the Akasaka Excel Hotel is very close by--easy walking distance if you don't have a lot of heavy bags. The New Ontai Hotel is also pretty close, but not as easy a walk.
