“Very convenient - right next to Tokyo Metro connecting to all major stops”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 14, 2013

The best part about the Akasaka Excel Hotel is for sure that it is literally across the street from the Akasaka-mitsuke station, which directly connects to all the major stops in Tokyo that you may want to visit: Shibuya, Shinjuku, Ginza, Tokyo Station, Ueno, Asakusa, etc.

The hotel itself is clean and the staff are friendly. Of course, the rooms are small but it is to be expected if you go to Tokyo. We stayed in the standard room, though I saw some of the higher grade rooms and they a lot more spacious. The amenities are great - big bottles of shampoo, conditioner, and body wash as well as hairbrush, toothbrush, razor, etc.

There is a huge 711 on the ground floor!

The only downside I would say was that they couldn't give us a non-smoking room, though honestly it wasn't a huge problem even though I hate second hand smoke. We heard some 'noises' from neighboring guests in the evening one night - good for them I guess. We just drowned them out with the TV.

The location of the hotel is a definite plus on any scale, you have 2 Metro Stations and a lot of bar/restaurants nearby like Hooters :D, which is conveniently located right next to the hotel.

We booked a semi-double room, the rooms were clean and small but good enough as we spent most of our time roaming around Tokyo. The decorations in the room were simple but we had a good view watching the sun rise.

The hotel staffs were very helpful and friendly.

This place definitely caters more to business travelers but for anyone else, this place is good since the hotel's location is very convenient.

The room was clean, all toiletries are available, free wifi and on walking distance of CITI Bank ATM. Underground on walking distance and nearby the Imperor Gardens. Also within walking distance of restaurant area. People are very friendly, they help you or they seek help from others!

Worth the cost!!!! Really great location Cross the street and your in the heart of Akasaka,Tokyo.. Superb location for business and leisure travellers, easy access to market and great shopping places like shinjuku,Ginza n much more thru metro, bus and taxi...located just nearby the Business district and nice pubs n restaurants.... hotel's Restaurants are also superb...Good healthy multi cuisine breakfast but having least options for vegetarians. If you are a non vegetarian, have lots of great options....Breakfast - they have everything - power up! Staff,They are very, very polite and and warm. English - some of the staff speak English or at least a little, even if they do not speak it, they will steer you towards someone that does... Rooms are well equiped with all amenities and nobody is required to carry anything from the toiletries from home. Simply the good and economical property to stay in the heart of Japan.

I stayed here for four nights in total. A double room comes in a range of formats, the best are very good indeed, the cheapest are cramped, the furniture worn and the worse for a great deal of wear. The real drawback though to this hotel is breakfast. Every single guest has to form an orderly queue and this at times can be as long as the width of the hotel. On arriving at the front of the queue, which can take up to twenty minutes, one is escorted to a table then abandoned to work out how to join the rugby scrum for breakfast. On a busy day it is chaotic and very un Japanese as it is badly organised. There are better hotels in Tokyo.

Room Tip: Tokyo is expensive but I would not recommend staying in this hotel for more than one night.

Room Size - not as small as people are making it seem. The room is VERY comfortable in size, so do not worry on that front. It is actually very close to the size of a normal hotel room in the US (we got the double bed room).

Toiletries - you do not really need to pack much. They have huge bottles of shampoo, conditioner, body soap, face soap and hand soap. Leave those at home. They even have mini brush, 2 toothbrushes, 2 razors, one hair tie and a shower cap. Save the room in your suitcase.

Air Conditioner - keep your key in the holder by the door to keep the AC running. If you leave the room and remove that key (aka, do not have a spare) your room will heat up. What do we suggest if it still isn't cool enough for you? Go across the street to BIC Camera, go up to the 6th floor and purchase a fan from their huge assortment. We got ours for ~$9 and plan to leave it here. Worth the cost!

Breakfast - they have everything - power up!

English - some of the staff speak English or at least a little English. They are very, very polite and, even if they do not speak it, they will steer you towards someone that does.

June Travel - yes, it did rain a little here and there but it was refreshing.
