“5 star all the way”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed yesterday NEW

This is my first time in The Capitol Hotel Tokyo, from the first time you step in the lobby, you get that welcome feeling from the helpful and friendly staff. Idea location for getting around Tokyo with several major metro lines beneath the hotel. The rooms are large for Tokyo and the prices are reasonable given the level of luxury in the hotel. Wifi is free, a big plus for business travellers however my only issue is the chair for working at the desk, it is not practical to have chairs without wheels.

There are some nice local restaurants a short walk away in Akasaka just near the TBS building and surrounding streets.

For a 5 star hotel in Tokyo, the Capitol comes at a reasonable price, so long as you book ahead. Rooms are well appointed with a modern Japanese design, great bathrooms, comfortable beds and all the amenities that you would expect from a top end hotel. It was also very spacious, not what you would expect of a typical sized hotel room in Tokyo.

The location, I believe, is within a business district, but it's within a short walk if you wanted a meal or shop at a convenience store. The hotel is also connected to the subway with 4 lines to choose from, Nanboku Line, Chiyoda Line, Ginza Line(220m) and Marunouchi Line(435m). My wife and I have been here on 2 occassions in the past 6 months, and highly recommend it. No questions, we will return to the Capitol on our next visit to this lovely city.

Location: located in the peaceful area of the embassies in tokyo yet very well connected to the rest of the city. The hotel is connected directly to a metro station.
Service: service is exceptional - supremely professional and efficient. We were greeted by staff everywhere we walked with the hotel. Check-in was fast and friendly.
Room: we had an upgraded room on a high floor. The room was beautiful and spacious with large windows giving a stunning view of the tokyo skyline. The decor was modern but with a hint of traditional Japanese design. The bathroom was stunning with a large shower and huge bath. Room was spotlessly clean and well maintained.
Restaurants / bar: we had breakfast in the hotel each day during our stay and had something different every day. Excellent choice of Japanese, European or American breakfasts - all beautifully presented and delicious. We did not have dinner in the hotel despite there being several restaurants to choose from.
Lounge: our room gave us access to the lounge where we were able to relax and enjoy beer, wine, cocktails and snacks. There's also a good view from the lounge.

Room Tip: Upgrade to club floor room.

I stay at this hotel because it is convenient for our office in Tokyo - and because they pick it. We used to used the New Otani - so switching is not out of the question. The hotel is generally good but expensive - and there are some constant niggling issues which one would not expect at a top hotel - these have been complained of - but are met with a shikata ga jai (shougenai), that irritatingly passive response of "it cannot be helped." So a list of the irritating niggles:

1. The internet system logs all users out of WiFi if they stop using it for even a few minutes, leading to having to go through the login process again and again - 3-10 times per hour! This has been the situation for two years - but management will not address it. Very irritating for business travellers.

2. They are not part of any major airline loyalty scheme. Instead they press you to join an obscure loyalty scheme called iPrefer. What does iPrefer get you - nothing but spam, spam, spam. I get so many e-mails from iPrefer. However, try, even when paying thousands of dollars to get iPrefer points and numbers obstacles are cited, for example (on a recent visit of about a week, 3 rooms booked, pretty high rate paid) - I was told that "you booked through an agent - no no points." I have never encountered this with any other hotel chain (or airline) including for example the Okura - which the Capitol Tokyu sees itself as a rival to. Pretty poor performance.

3. Cripes, breakfast is expensive, then only option is the full buffet when after a few days I would settle for fresh fruit. It is much more expensive than breakfast at the New Otani, a comparable hotel very nearby.

4. The swimming pool is ludicrously shallow - almost un-swimably shallow. No accountant should be allowed to have any say in the design of a hotel swimming pool, on pain of drowning.

I stayed for 1 night in a standard room.

The rooms offer nice views of the Tokyo skyline, and are quite large by Tokyo standards.

The location is right by the Parliament and very close to the Imperial Palace. One unexpected bonus: the shrine next door. If you're lucky you will catch a festival, with all the Japanese turning up in traditional costumes to dance, and lots of hawkers selling "interesting" food.

Service very efficient.

I stayed at the Capitol Hotel Tokyu in April of 2014 for six days, when on a two-week trip to Japan. My initial reservation was for four days, but I was so impressed with the quality of service, that I extended my stay by two more days. For the two additional days, my already luxurious room was upgraded to a suite for no additional charge (I was in Tokyo during a busy blooming sakura season, so my room became unavailable). The location was very convenient - close to the city center, yet in an area with a lot of governmental buildings, which made for quiet nights. The concierge service was helpful: they located and reserved for me a night helicopter tour of Tokyo in less than 15 minutes. The hotel staff also assisted me well with shipping my luggage from Tokyo to the next city on my itinerary (at first, I took this assistance for granted, until I had a bad experience in an Osaka hotel, when trying to ship by luggage to Kyoto). I also liked that the hotel had a gym, which is not common in Japan. I have already recommended this hotel to several friends.

Room Tip: I would suggest booking a room in this hotel through discount sites, rather than directly, as it is...
