“Don't hop on to start with: what a waste!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed July 13, 2013

To be completely frank, the Sky Bus was a complete waste of both time and money. While they offer 3 tours, after about 10 minutes, it's already incredibly dull. The English language commentary is spartan to say the least and in some of the few places where there was something to say, the commentary often cut off in mid-sentence to say the next thing.... "The imperial palace is considered one of the most interesting ... Cut... On the right is a restaurant where Brad Pitt ... Cut... Etc. Mostly it's elevator music with the sound of the Japanese mattering on at great length and in obvious detail about the buildings. Rather pointlessly, one must admit, since it was largely non-Japanese on the bus.

If you like being stuck in traffic jams or driving on motorways, this is a great tour. For everyone else, spare yourself the pain. Maybe the Sky Bus company will read the reviews here and realise they need to up their game. Tokyo is a city of 30 million people: there must be more to say than where Brad Pitt once chopped his fingernails, or whatever he did, since they never finished the sentence.

“Mixed bag”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed July 2, 2013

There are a number of sightseeing bus tours in Tokyo, but this one offers the ability to hop on and hop off at various spots along the way. It has 3 routes and once you buy a one day (24 hour) ticket, you can ride all 3 routes. To get to the buses, take any train line to the Tokyo Station, and exit by the south exit, walk straight across the street about 2 blocks and the Mitsubishi Building will be on your left. This is where all the buses leave and return. Schedules are posted on the boards and you can buy tickets from the agents at the bus stop. The agents spoke English and are helpful and friendly. Buses are clean. 1,800 Yen for a day ticket and good on all 3 routes. Most buses are double decker, open top, but one route is not. The tours themselves are not spectacular. It does give you a sense of where things are, distance between them and some sights of the city. Some routes the bus will duplicate the streets (up one side to an attraction and then back the other side). This falls short on opportunities to see other different parts of the city. This was my second visit to Tokyo, so things were familiar to me, but for a first time visitor, it will give you some sightseeing and show you how to get to certain attractions like the Tokyo Tower and Tokyo Sky Tree.

“There are better ways to see Tokyo”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2013

Hop-on/off busses are usually a great way to orient yourself in a new city and check out the places where you would like to spend some time but this one is the worst we have ever been on.

Busses were typically spotless with courteous staff but there were three main problems:
- the routes didn't seem to show many local attractions
- the English translation commentary was very sparse and not in synch with the "attractions"
- the Japanese guides talked non-stop over loudspeakers (even when the bus was full of international tourists), drowning out what little commentary there was.

Much better to identify the places you want to see at the Tourist Information Centre and get around using the subway or normal busses.

“Good clean buses, polite staff but that's where it ends !”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed June 13, 2013

Having taken tours in many cities in the world, the majority have been excellent, but this was by far the worst ever. There are 3 tours included in the 24hour ticket, we did two out of the three tours as we had time to waste, yes we saw the Tokyo Tower and Tokyo Skytree but after 3 to 4 hours on the bus that's all we saw of interest. Would not recommend.
Bus itself was clean and all staff polite, the problem lies with the itinerary itself.

“Not worth it”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 26, 2013

We have been on countless hop on hop off buses in many countries. Normally we really enjoy them and they are a good way to see a lot in a short space of time.
This one was disappointing however. Very light on commentary through the headphones. It's mainly music in between the odd comment. The guide speaks Japanese via microphone the whole time so that's a constant distraction in the background even with headphones in. Surprisingly very few sights. Traffic is bad so it takes a very long time to get anywhere. There are three routes. We jumped off after the first one and didn't bother with the other two as it wasn't good value.
