“Peaceful in Tokyo”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 21, 2010

Overall Mystays was the best hotel we stayed in while in Japan.

Modern, clean, comfortable, with really friendly and helpful staff, I couldn't fault the hotel for much, they even checked up on us after a minor earthquake that I only just felt.

Laundry facility was clean, cool and with two beer vending machines, meaning doing the laundry wasn't a chore!

Within very easy walking distance of Electric Town and some fantastic little eateries, I will definately stay here again.

The onsite restaurant was fantastic and very high quality and having a FamilyMart accessable from the hotel was really useful.

For some reason my reservation on their website was not successful. Emails weren't answered either because it was Golden Week(end) and the personnel with access was away. I ended up calling the hotel to confirm it and when I finally spoke to the manager a few days later she confirmed my (email) booking.

We dropped off the Limousine Bus at Tokyo Station. Unluckily the cabbie didn't know exactly where the hotel was (even though she claimed to, before we boarded). She wasn't even certain where Awajicho was and took a couple of wrong turns in spite of the map I showed her. The cab fare to the hotel came up to about 1,500 yen.

We arrived at the hotel just before 10am. The official check-in time is 3pm but the manager let us know that one of the two rooms we booked would be ready in half an hour. We took a short 10 minute walk to Akihabara to shop around and when we returned before lunch, found that the 2nd room was ready. Such check-in timing flexibility was much appreciated.

The nearest Metro station is Awajicho (Marunouchi line; 2 stops from Tokyo Station), just 3.5 minutes walk on a flat street. Note though that this station has no lifts or escalators. It is one flight of steps down.

The nearest JR station is Ochanomizu - a 5 minute walk upslope. There are other subway lines here too (refer to hotel's http://www.mystays.jp/ochanomizu/access.html).

The rooms were spotless and felt very new. The beds firm and each with 2 pillows - one feathered and one contoured (hard). Our road-facing rooms were quiet with the occasional distant chugging of trains.

The standard twin room size is quite comfortable compared to other business hotels in Tokyo. The deluxe twin room is spacious with two semi-double beds, a study desk, a mini seating area for 4 and comfortable walking space.

The hotel provides free internet use in the room by providing a LAN cable; just have to bring your own netbook. On top of the usual toiletries and green tea, the modern rooms are equipped with a fridge, safe, water boiler and PVC slippers.

Sometimes the shower water could not be as hot (over 40 degC) as needed and the perpetually operating ventilator could create a mini-draft in the toilet by drawing in room air.

Even when we opted not to have our room made, they left a fresh change of towels, bathrobes and toiletries in a bag at the door.

The room package we chose did not come with breakfast so we went downstairs to the Family Mart convenience store each morning to get food (bread, buns etc).

The neighbourhood is quiet with low-rise buildings and a couple of good soba restaurants around. This hotel is recommended if you prefer staying away from the hubbub and yet have good connections to the rest of the city.

I have stayed here four times. It's a good, clean hotel, closed to metro. There is a Family mart on the 1st floor. It's easy from Narita Airport.

I just stayed at the MYSTAY in Akihabara for 5 days in Dec as I have always dreamed of going to Akihabara.
What a treat this hotel was.
It is immeadiatly up the block from the Akihabara Station and very easy to find.
if you arrive in Narita and take the NEX to Tokyo station - this is two stops from there and very, very accessible.
Once at the hotel, they provide a central bar with amenities that you can take free of charge (combs, slippers, toothbrushes, etc...)
there is a Family Mart convienence store IN THE HOTEL that is open 24 hours and carries everthing from Starbucks coffee to Japanese video game magazines.
The staff is SUPER friendly and a few of them speak English (one was fluent while I was there)
They staff go out of their way to make sure you have everything you need and the rooms are CLEAN and Spacious (I stayed in the twin - smallest room)
I am 5'11 and 200lbs and I had AMPLE room to move around.
The bathroom has a traditional Western Toilet (Japanese electric one with the bidet) and a standard bathing shower.
There is a Post Office right outside the hotel with a JP Bank ATM where you can use your ATM card (call your bank)

All in all, if you want to "geek out" and spend time in the Electric town then this is the hotel for you...it is central to the train station so you can getaway (I traveled to Harajuku and Shibuya while in Tokyo by walking 5 min)
I will always stay in this hotel when traveling to Japan.

My only CON:
The televisions had the basic local stations and I wish it at least had extended channels.
but you can purchase movies and internet in free in the room
