The hassle is caused by finding the place without one vital piece of information; namely that these gardens now form part of the grounds of the Four Seasons Hotel at Chinzan-so. From the nearest subway station, there are no signs of any kind and it is over a mile to walk, even without diversions and asking for help. When you get there, the garden is fine and pretty, but absolutely not worth the effort involved. I also have the impression that the Four Seasons' groundsmen are letting the gardens go; for example an old waterwheel was so clogged up it could hardly move. If you have limited time in Tokyo and do not wish to pay Four Seasons' prices, forget this treat.
