“Very attentive!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 1 week ago

Just what I needed: a very relaxing weekend in Tokyo with pampering! The hotel staff, from check-in to check-out, made me feel as though I was their main priority. The restaurants offer exquisite eating. I especially recommend Camilla, where the chef went out of his way to accommodate my lactose-intolerance. Many thanks to our host for the evening. Andre ensured we met all of our connections promptly and had a effortless check-out. And the garden... having a garden at our very own disposal was such a welcomed retreat from the hustle and bustle of busy Tokyo. The design of the garden is such that you felt as though you could walk in it all day and not see the same corner twice! Just perfect.

Room Tip: Garden view, definitely!

Very nice hotel, used to be named as "Fourseasn" but quality is still same as before. They have natural firefly in their Japanese garden and only place in central Tokyo! The pool has a hot spring bath bringing from Hakone.

Room Tip: Garden side rooms have nice Japanese garden, but bit more expensive.

We strive to keep the service and quality up to the highest level.
Every year in the beginning of Summer there are fireflies in our vast garden. It is a very spectacular sight and we are happy that you could enjoy it and relax as well in our pool and spa.
We sincerely hope to welcome you back in the near future.

The hotel was exceptional. My gf and I booked it with a tour package through HIS's Destination Japan's website. It was actually part of a tour package as well. The hotel was a bit pricey but worth every penny! The staff were always extremely professional and helpful even with my rudimentary Japanese. The view and gardens around the hotel were beautiful. We were able to experience a special tea ceremony with the package as well! This hotel also included an onsen which was something that my gf and I were very interested in. I would recommend this hotel and tour package to anyone traveling to Tokyo, or Japan for that matter.

Stayed here for a short summer getaway hoping to relax and enjoy the garden, food, and atmosphere. Before checking in, we decided to have lunch at Le Jardin. Unfortunately, the restaurant does not cater to those with dietary restrictions. There were no vegan options available so I was unable to eat. This is understandable at a 2 or 3 star hotel, but completely unacceptable at a hotel that describes themselves as "Luxury Hotel Tokyo, 5 Star". I expect a much higher level of service at a hotel of this class. Clearly, their rating needs to be changed.

The hotel features the "Pagoda Lounge" which is a lounge area with free coffee, tea, and reading materials. I spent some time here on my first day relaxing and viewing the garden. On my second day, I returned at opening time to find it closed without any sign or notice. After a 20 minute wait, we were informed by the staff that it was moved to a lower floor. Unbelievable. Again, not the kind of serve I expect at a "5 Star" hotel.

Other than the problems above, the room was spacious, and had a great view of the garden. The furniture and design though, are a bit dated and dirty. As for the location, it is a bit inconvenient for tourists, especially those who are unfamiliar with the transportation system in Tokyo.

I understand this used to be a Four Seasons property. What a big change, this place is nowhere near the level of service a Four Season Hotel provides. I hope the hotel changes their "5 Star" rating and if not, then at least live up to the standards of service. Until then, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone expecting a 5 Star experience and have no interest in returning.

Room Tip: Garden facing rooms have a nice view of Chinzanso Garden and Ikebukuro.

Dear Cometdebris san,

Thank you for staying at Hotel Chinzanso and for leaving your comments on TripAdvisor. We really need the valuable opinions of our guests to help us improving the service at the hotel even more.
It was unfortunate that you could not have a vegetarian lunch at the lobby lounge Le Jardin before you checked in. Before your arrival we communicated by email and mentioned that we are not being able to offer vegetarian meals at Le Jardin. At that time, we mailed you the vegetarian options and menus for the other restaurants in the hotel. However, we do apologize for not having such options at Le Jardin and the management will take your opinion definitely into consideration.
The Pagoda Lounge on the 12th floor is normally open on weekdays from 10:00 until 18:00. Due to unforeseen maintenance work, we had to change the location for a few days to the 4th floor during your stay. We sincerely regret that nobody informed you and that a notification board was not placed in front of the lounge prior to your arrival. This was clearly our miss and we do apologize for this matter.
We were happy to read that you were satisfied with our spacious rooms and could enjoy the garden. The hotel is currently undergoing several renovations, and rooms and facilities are constantly being updated.
Thanks to our vast garden and an abundance of green around us, the hotel area is very quiet and guests do not get the feeling of being in the middle of a big city. The downside of this is that the hotel is not right next to a train station. The nearest subway station is less than 10 minutes on foot and the closest railway station is a short taxi or bus ride away.
We will keep doing our utmost to provide the level of service you expect from a 5 star hotel and regret that we failed to satisfy you. We would be happy if you could give us another chance and that we can proof to you that we do earn the 5 star rating.

We had a great experience at Hotel Chinzanso where we stayed for four nights as part of a group conference. Memorable. The huge largely camellia garden with a pagoda, waterfall, and many other features was amazing. We walked around it at least twice a day, changed with the sun and the weather. The hotel is a former Four Seasons, now independent, and very competently managed. It is kept very well as it appears to be a major wedding site, we enjoyed watching at least 5 different weddings during the Saturday we were there. Hard to tell as there were kimonos, colored lavish gowns and traditional western white gown in abundance. Breakfast which was included could be either Japanese or western. Both were great. Wonderful Japanese plate of varied choices, and truffled eggs Benedict with fresh shaved truffles. Our room was spacious and modern. Great view of the garden and pagoda from a large circular window. Great bath, shower, separate WC, and heated floors. Towels and bed linens were luxurious. Beds very comfortable.
The concierge who we consulted often as this was our first trip to Japan was so helpful with a variety of questions and requests. The restaurants, only some of which we were able to sample looked excellent. Excellent pastries and Japanese candies in the gift shop. We enjoyed an excellent quick pasta dinner in the Italian restaurant when we arrived late the first night. Although not centrally located we had no trouble with transportation. An elegant hotel with superior amenities, and a truly memorable garden. Great for a stay, and not bad for a wedding either!

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a circular window overlooking the vast central garden. Either the pagoda or the...

The rooms are very large and come with L'Occitane amenities. The room had a very nice view of Tokyo at night time and its nice to watch while sitting in the comfortable chairs that the rooms have. The hotel really feels like a luxury hotel and you can see that from decorations, all the way to the staff which provided excellent service. Distance from the subway is a bit far, but we made use of the free shuttle service to Ikebukuro that runs (half?) hourly to visit the center. For us it was actually a good thing that this hotel is located in such quiet area. We could enjoy the busy city atmosphere during the day, and relax in a peaceful and quiet neighbourhood in the evenings. One of the highlights of the hotel is the garden, which is free of charge for guests and non-guests.

Dear Tom H San,

Thank you for staying at Hotel Chinzanso Tokyo and for leaving your valuable comments on TripAdvisor. We are happy to read that you enjoyed your stay and considered the service excellent. The staff is always doing its utmost to satisfy guests. As you mentioned, it is very quiet around the hotel thanks to our vast garden and greenery. It doesn’t feel like being in the big city. It is less than a 10 minute walk to the nearest subway station. The shuttle bus runs in the weekends to Ikebukuro station but there are also regular buses and/or taxi’s which will take you quickly to other nearby stations.
The garden is indeed a highlight of the hotel and is very different in each season. We hope you will have another opportunity to visit us and enjoy the garden for example in early summer when the fireflies are around.
