“love the chicken inato”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 7, 2013

My hubby was hungry by the time we landed in Tagbilaran so we asked our driver where we can go for chicken bbq and this is where he recommended. It was still early lunch so we were probably their first customers. We went to the second floor and they have an outdoor seating area with a live tree at the center of the restaurant. The indoor seating area was quite interesting with probably the owner's collection of anything chicken. It did smell a bit of Baygon, maybe they just sprayed the area so we chose to dine outside. We ordered the chicken inato and kangkong with bagoong. The food came and the chicken was really good and their kangkong was prepared differently (regional, I guess) but very good. Hubby wanted another serving of it but we didn't want to run late with our appointments that day. We planned to bring our families here on the way back to Manila.

“Very Pleasant, Good Food, Good Value”

We had lunch here. My wife had barbecued chicken and was plaesed. I had the sizzling gambas (shrimp) and thought it was excellent.

“Disappointing.”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed February 8, 2013

We came to this restaurant at the end of a very busy day visiting the sites, but were very disappointed with the food, service and cleanliness it had to offer. We ordered the sizzling gambas which had been recommended by the lonely planet but which were, it turned out, fairly average. We also ordered the butter chicken which was one of the worst things Ive ever recieved at a restaurant. The quaility of the chicken was terrble, the batter was flavourless and it was greasy and disgusting. The staff were not welcoming and were disinterested in whether or not we enjoyed our food. They did not take away our plates when we were finished, and there were groups of them lingering around playing with cuttlery baskets and being very unattentive. The tables and floor was dirty and we saw 2 very large rats wondering along the skirting and climbing into an open bin outsde the kitchen as if this was a normal evening for them. The parakeets that were caged in the corner looked uncared for and distressed and squaked loudly throughout our meal. This was a very bad eating experience and I don't believe Payag deserves a mention in any guidebook.

“Payag Restaurant”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 16, 2012

Payag Restaurant is a cozy bistro located in the heart of Tagbilaran City. It has a country charm that displays the owner's wide array of its chicken collection and a tree, standing proudly inside the restaurant. Serves affordable and good Filipino food, my personal favorites being chicken inato, sizzling gambas and binakhaw, a refreshing take on kinilaw. Great for family dinners as well.
