“Not a great option, but ok”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed March 3, 2013

Upon arrival, we were greeted with the standard "no rooms available except the deluxe" (this was a common trend in Thailand), so we took their deluxe for 1,050 Pesos.

The room sat right on top of the road so was very noisy most of the night. It also had a collection of ants that were waiting to come out and take away any scraps you dropped on the floor. This has happened in a lot of hotels in the Philippines, but nowhere near as bad as at El Portal Inn. The room was otherwise clean, well furnished and the bed was comfortable. The staff were also very friendly.

I found the staff very welcoming and helpful. They picked us up at the ferry port, gave us a very clean room and had a driver waiting to take us on the tour of Bohol. The room was spacious with 2 beds and nice bathroom and working tv. The staff works hard to keep it clean. The driver they provided was very good. We let him plan the route which afforded us the best way of seeing the attractions. The only negative comment would be its location. Its on a quiet street away from shopping areas. Some guesthouses are directly across from busy shopping streets like the NISA Travelers hotel. We prefer the quiet street ourselves. You will enjoy your stay here.

Room Tip: We had room with no window. If you desire window, ask for room with one. Since we had a 2 yr old w...

This hotel is located in the heart of Tagbilaran in a part that is far from appealing however convenient for flying and/or sailing out. You can go everywhere with a tricycle for just 8 PHP. The rooms are ok, What makes this hotel so special is the way people behave there. They are very proactive, friendly and value their guests. We rented a driver with a car over Bohol island for just 2000 PHP, they provided free pick-up, drop-off at the airport or at the port.

Room Tip: If you want window go for pricier room

Wonderful staff - very friendly and helpful. Our room was comfortable and spotlessly clean and had TV, air conditioning and a great hot water shower. Excellent value for money and good location close to the port. The hotel was very accommodating in putting us up for a couple of extra nights when our ferry was cancelled due to the typhoon (Tagbilaran is a friendly little town so this wasn't a major headache).

Spent one night here recently.
Room was very clean.
Bedding was comfortable,Air Conditioning unit not noisy and good hot water for showering.
WIFI was available.
It is very close to the Ferry Terminal..about 5 minutes by Tuk Tuk.
All the Staff were really helpful and went out of their way to
assist.
Our Room overlooked the Street but we did not notice any traffic noise.
Breakfast was good and filling.

Excellent value.

El Portal Inn definitely made our stay in Bohol stress free! It is conveniently situated near the ports, to which they provide free pick-ups. Our room was cool and clean and the bed was very comfortable with cable channels to boot. The bathroom is also clean and quite large, complete with the essentials. The staff is very friendly and accommodating, ready to give detailed answers and options at any time. They also recommended and had arranged for us the rented car that drove us around the island at the last minute! The hotel manager was also quick in responding to e-mails for reservations, providing as well, other accommodations that they offer. For that, 4 thumbs up!

One thing that I will always remember about El Portal --aside from its good selection of meals from their menu, tasty and filling breakfast, very comfortable sleep on their soft and warm beds, TV with working cable channels, A/C is working well, and free airport pick up and drop off, is how convenient this place is as it's very close to the Airport, about less than 5 min drive, close to the plaza for last minute pasalubong shopping, and of course the friendly, and very polite staff and owner of this Inn.
It may not have the amenities of other hostels or bed & breakfast inns, but surely it's worth a stay for it's affordable, safe, and good accommodation.
*Note: there's no lift here, just the stairs leading to the rooms upstairs. The staff will be more than willing to help carry the luggage especially if there are elder companions of guests.
