We were a little bit nervous about our stay at the Casitas del Colca after some of the more recent negative reviews and especially given how expensive the hotel is. I have to say that, apart from one or two niggles, we had a wonderful stay.
Firstly, the property, grounds, casitas and surroundings are themselves are beautiful. The rooms are spacious, luxurious and well furnished. The bathrooms are fantastic and the outside areas, with hot tubs and loungers, are great. We loved sitting in our jacuzzi, with a bottle of wine, looking at the stars on the cold nights, as well as sitting out on our patio watching the tame alpaca and lamas graze on the grass right outside our room. The little touches, such as lovely toiletries, hot water bottles and your own herb garden to cut leaves to make teas, are delightful.
We found all the staff to be helpful and friendly and in particular, the manager was very attentive. We were lucky enough to stay at the property when it was very quiet which suited us perfectly. We had very good service in the restaurant and never had a problem with the amount of time it took to get food, drinks or so on. That said, often we were the only ones in there!
We enjoyed the cooking classes and pisco sour classes, but were disappointed that they charged what we viewed as quite extortionate rates to go horse riding or hire bikes. To hire two bikes for one hour was $90 - a rip off in my view, and quite unnecessary when you have already paid a lot of money to stay here in the first place.
We also loved the trip to and from the property (which was a lovely journey with plenty to see) and were lucky enough to see seven condors when we went to the Condor's Cross. That said, we also enjoyed walking round the property, lazing in the sun and long lunches - this is a great, peaceful place to relax. The spa is also lovely and I had a very nice relaxing massage which was well worth the money.
Overall, we loved our stay at the Casitas and would recommend it to anyone.
