“Relaxing place”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 10, 2010

We find a good hotel, very quite and clean. The beds were comfortable and the room was kept warm with a small heater. The breakfast was good, home made bread (nice smell early in the morning) and essential you need.
We also had diner in the hotel, and comparing to other place was quite ok.
This hotel was one of the best that we choose in Peru, comparing price/quality.
We recommend this hotel, to anyone, who is looking for a quite place to rest after exhausting day in Colca Canyon.

Before I start describing this hotel I would like to explain that I'm very familiar with Peru. My job requires constant traveling and my wife and in-laws are from Peru, so we have visited almost every area in this part of the World. We have traveled to the Colca Canyon on several occasions. The beauty, colors, peace, and serenity of the area is remarkable.
When traveling to the Colca Canyon, we always stay at the Collahua Hotel. The hotel is made out of separate colorful bungalows, so you can be assured of plenty of privacy. The bungalows are constructed from local materials which give the hotel its unique colorful rustic exterior look while providing a comfortable environment indoors, and a feel of being inside the Colca valley.
The bungalows and hotel surroundings are very clean. Amenities include clean towels, shampoo, soap, really hot water (a must in this area), clean beds , excellent breakfast and dining buffets, bars, and much more. As I've mentioned the beds and bed spreads are clean. We have stayed in other hotels in the area where the bed spreads have not been changed for months, and although hot water was advertised, in reality it is missing. Also in other hotels you may not find towels.
One thing you must keep in mind is that there are no 5 stars hotels in this area, the beds are not as comfortable as a Marriott's or Hilton's bed spread, but they are comfortable. Buy the way, there is no television here or at any hotel that I've stayed in the area. This is a relaxing, enjoy the nature place, television is out. If you are traveling with children, take some games for them to play at night, since this area, like any National Park might be boring for children.
The Collahua Hotel staff is always there to assist, very friendly. From the moment that you step into the reception center your keys to the bungalow are handed and a social drink is provided. The hotel usually accommodates large bus tours at a time, so everything is included with the Colca Canyon tours, they just hand you the keys and you are at home with nature. By the way, the restaurant actually have Chefs that can prepare excellent meals. The Hotel manager and owner are usually on sight to assist with any request.
About the Colca Canyon, it is one of the most beautiful, calm, and relaxing places on earth. If you want to see Machupichu, one of the wonders of the World, you must also see the Colca region, the deepest Canyon. The area is surrounded by volcanoes and at a very high altitude, so be prepare for this. Do your homework and follow the recommendations offered by the hotel staff, tour guides, etc, and the altitude will not bother you. Drink plenty of bottle water, Coca and Chachacoma tea, they are great for adjusting your body to high altitudes (12,000 to 16,000 feet).
The Colca also offers hot spring pools, which are very clean and relaxing. Take your swimming suits and towels to the pools. The entrance fee to the hot springs is only 10 soles, around $3.50 US dollars. There is hiking, canoe rafting, biking, horseback riding. Ask the hotel staff or the tour guides and they will assist with your requests. By US travel standards, everything in the Colca Canyon area is relatively inexpensive.
The hotel Collahua is a beautiful, clean, comfortable , relaxing, and inexpensive place to stay. Do your research and compare, they have a web site http://www.hotelcollahua.com/. The pictures in the web site are accurate. I hope that this review helps anyone to enjoy their Colca Canyon trip, one of the hidden nature treasures on earth.
