“Revisited after four years. Improved.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2014

We visited this hotel four years ago for our silver wedding anniversary and whilst it was nice it looked a bit tired, this time there has been obvious redecoration and hotel is very nice. The hotel seems to focus on business and corporate activity but holiday makers are treated brilliantly. We had our bicycles with us and the secure storage is limited and one evening we were escorted to a nice room for our bikes meaning a journey through the impressive foyer. Staff were all pleasant, gardens beautiful, did not use the pool but it looked nice and we were not attracted to the menu and ate out both evenings.. Oosterbeek area is amazing to cycle around, will be back for sure..

Room Tip: Some rooms are rear facing, ask if your room faces front for a nice view in the mornings.

Puzzling, that is what this hotel is. Not the biggest of problems, but doing something about it would enhance the overall feeling. Even the entrance is puzzling. "This is not the hotel entrance" a note on a door tells us. But where is it then? That is not told. The entrance itself is the modern kind, not reflecting the rest of the hotel. The overall lay out has become puzzling. Part of the hotel is not a hotel. The menu in the restaurant is puzzling, as is the wine list. Staff agree wholeheartedly. Directions to a nearby castle are puzzling and incorrect. Service at the bar is puzzling. No, we do not serve pastis. Yes, we do! In all, service seems somewhat uncoordinated. Not unkind though, not at all. A bit helpless.
As for the rest. Good room, good bed, good lounge area, well situated. Would not mind going there again but would have a look at alternatives first.

Hotel De Bilderberg is idyllic located in the greenest part of The Netherlands close to the city of Arnhem. It's perfect for leisure and business stay.

Overall few:
-The restaurant and main lobby is decent but starting to get outdated. In het conference rooms some chairs had stains.
-Standard rooms are nicely decorated.
-Bathroom is functional with some basic amenities.

Showering in the tub is not really a good idea since it's quite difficult to get into the tub if you're disabled, short or a bit elder.

+ location
, close to Arnhem
+ indoor pool

+ nice staff
, specially the restaurant staff
+ free parking

+ decent food

+ good beds/ pillows

+ big rooms

- not really good functioning heater

- no airco

- no minibar
- no free wifi

- - bad turnoff, within a few hours after checkout I reported a item left in the 'locked' room, but according to staff it wasn't there anymore

Friendly, spacious, great food good rooms not far from Oosterbeek also on bus route so easy walk to it also about 15 mins walk into Oosterbeek if you want to stretch your legs.
Location is excellent for Battle tours and ideal for Airborne Marches in September.

Stayed here a few times whilst visiting the area. Always found it very clean and welcoming. Good location a few minutes walk from Oosterbeek centre. Set in wooded area your stay here will be very relaxing. Great place to use as a base whilst visiting Arnhem area and surrounding areas of interest

Pleasant room although rather small. We heard a lot of noise at night: sounds from neighbouring rooms, talking in the hallways, slamming of doors. Good choice at breakfast. When you dine there you will understand my remark about being pretentious. By the way, their white housewine alvilla costs in a regular shop euro 4,95, here they charge you euro 30 for it. Average glass of wine will set you back about euro 5,50. We asked to dine outside. That was not possible. Twenty minutes later other people did enjoy their food outside on the terrace. No free wifi, euro 3 per hour.

At first sight this looks like a brilliant hotel. Relaxed atmosphere, surrounded by lovely woods with direct access to walking and cycling paths. First impressions continue to impress with staff who will very willingly sort out any minor glitch. A very nice fitness room and pool area. So well on the way to a four star or even five star (apart from the lack of air conditioning, but this cannot be a criticism as we knew that before we went)

However there was a clear lack of attention to things which could easily be sorted.

For example, in part of the hotel, the doors appear only to be closed if they bang very very loudly, meaning that if you are a light sleeper you will be disturbed. This problem could easily be reduced if there were instructions how to use the electronic key to shut the door silently. I worked this out on my second day.

Another example was the breakfast quality. It was barely adequate. The scrambled egg appeared to be some form of constituted matter, varying from lumps swimming in liquid to a rubber tyre. By far the worst scrambled egg I have ever seen. The choice of hot food was about three star level. There was a lack of the normal four star nuts and seeds to add to muesli etc. the brand of tea was a very cheap one, appropriate for a two star hotel

Another small example was that the supply of shampoo, gel was barely adequate. There was sufficient but only if used with care - I have never had this issue before. In itself it is not significant but it is another tiny detail where the hotel has not got it quite right

A shame. It would take so little for this hotel to be a really great one. It seems to be resting on its laurels
