Last week I traveled to Guatemala with 7 other members of my company. We all work in and around coffee and wanted to see a working farm. This farm just across Lake Atitlan from Panajachel was the perfect blend of visual beauty and educational experience. Our guide lead us through the amazing cooperative that supports 140 families, showing us all the stages of coffee and organic farming. We took time to touch the plants, feel the earth and soak up all we could about the stages of growing coffee. After the guided tour through the avocado, banana and coffee trees (as well as many other trees planted to shade the coffee) we had the opportunity to watch how coffee is processed from a cherrie to a bean.
Everyone on the farm was so welcoming and treated us like family. If you are ever traveling to Guatemala and really want to connect agriculture, I recommend this incredible experience.
