“Countryside onsen hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 21, 2013

The theme of this place is balloons. I think they have a hot air balloon festival twice a year at this hotel. I went in the winter so I missed any hot air balloon activity. The onsen here is supposedly plant based, and different from the other onsens in Japan. It was pretty good but it's hard to say if the onsen is better than others.

Came here with a tour package and the set dinner wasn't all that great but wasn't terrible either. It's a typical mid-level onsen hotel set dinner. Breakfast was okay as well. Hotel is older and rooms are pretty small, around 8 tatami maybe. We came during a winter festival that the local town put up with lights and music in the snow. Close to the hotel and they can shuttle you over. Free hot milk, scavenger hunt, foot and hand onsens, and some kids activities like a snowmobile pulled raft through a planned course. Decent visit for 30 min after dinner. Makes you want to go back and use the onsen and relax after some snow play.

Stayed February 2013, traveled as a couple

Thinking it's a hot spring small town, but actually it's a small town with lots huge hotels. You can't find street with shops, just local people only. Just like visit a countryside. We take direct shuttle bus from airport to here, the transportation is convient. Dinner/breakfest is nice too, people are friendly. Though hotel is not very new, but it's clean and confortable. Thank for the people in this hotel, we almost lost but bus back to train station. Hotel people took us with their small van to catch up the bus.

Stayed for a night in March 2012 and it was great. Upon arrival at the hotel, we were greeted by 3 friendly front desk staff who speaks reasonably english and even went the extra mile in escorting us to the room and explaining in detail every single amenity and usage of the various appliances within the room. We booked a japanese room for 2 and it was huge, compared to other ryokens we have stayed in. There are plenty of spaces and can easily accommodate up to 4 adults. The view from the room was awesome - facing the Tokachigawa area. As it was late winter, the hot air balloon rides are not available. But during summer, the hot air balloon ride is just next to the hotel between 6-9am. Breakfast and dinner spread in the hotel, however, are disappointing. After our dinner buffet, we had to resort to driving down to Obihiro downtown for our second round. Will recommend to reserve room without meals. It's much more cheaper to eat downtown and the variety and quality is definitely much better as compared to the hotel. The hotel has a nice onsen located next door and it's one of the best within the area. Many locals actually drive here to enjoy the onsen.
