“Unexpected find in Kilrush”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed July 7, 2012

We were heading towards the Shannon Ferry and were hungry so we decided to find a place in Kilrush. After reading the one review on TA, we decided to try Buttermarket. The food was great and homemade. They have a nice variety and some baked goods as well. Definitely worth a stop for lunch or snack if you're in the area.

“wonderful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 29, 2012

The buttermarket cafe is a wonderful example of how food should be in Ireland. My family and I called for our lunch one afternoon. The decor is lovely and modern but still feels cosy.the seating is comfortable and spacious but with secluded areas to enjoy a good natter with friends too.we were greeted by a very nice lady who explained the menu. Each day has a different homemade pie and quiche. There was soups sandwiches and salads on offer. My husband went for a steak and kidney pie and I have a very tasty goats cheese and red pepper quiche both served with delicious salad. The dressing on the salad was so good i bought a bottle to take home. The food was wonderful. all the produce on offer was home cooked (real ham not thin slices of rubber) the salads were fresh and again were home prepared as opposed to mass produced tasteless fare we seem to get in so many places. My son had a bowl of the 'nicest soup ever' red pepper and potato, with home made brown bread made by the owner. She also bakes all the cakes and desserts (Millionares shortbread is to die for). Its a little hard to find, just off the square in kilrush but well worth a visit.excellent value, Simply delicious food .Ann our waitress told us that the couple that run the buttermarket cafe also have a evening resturant in near by Kilkee called Murphy Blacks. If the food here is any thing to go on it should be worth checking out that also.
