“charming, relaxing”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

We stayed here recenetly in the Junior Suite and were completely happy. It took us 8 hours flight to get to Madrid airport, then a four hour drive to get to Getaria, but it was worth the effort.

We were looking for a relaxing holiday, in a quiet place, with good food and fresh air. We wanted a room where we could spend time reading books and just unwinding. We found all this in this hotel and the charming town of Getaria.

The staff were really friendly and helpful, answering all our questions and giving us good directions. The bed was super comfortable, the view was beautiful. We slept with the windows open and listened to the waves crashing.

The hotel has all the charm of a 19thC manor, and is beautifully decorated, but has lots of modern comforts too, including an elevator, free wi-fi, great showers, good heating, everything you would want. I would happily stay here again.

Getaria is a picturesque township on the coast. The harbour is an active fishing centre and the local restaurants feature the catch of the day. Note that most of the restaurants seem to survive on the lunch trade, and the choice in the evening is more limited. Nevertheless we ate well both lunch and dinner.
The hotel, which has a lot of charm to recommend it, is located in a very narrow street above the port. It is a very short walk to restaurants and to the Balenciaga museum on the hill (which is definitely worth a visit!). The room was comfortable and unexpectedly spacious, with glimpses of the port over the neighbouring rooftops. The stairwell is little noisy, but this is a boutique hotel and we had no real problems. The hotel staff were friendly and helpful, particularly the gentleman at the reception.

the hotel sits on the cliff overlooking one of the town bays. The rooms with the sea view are awesome though if you go for the cheaper option you can still have sea views in the lounge and the balcony. Getaria is compact, friendly, easy to get around and has so many good places to eat that you need to stay there a few days, though it is fair to say that you'll need to have a lot of credit on your card in some of the restaurant. If you are going to the northern coast of Spain then you can't do much better than this hotel

My husband and I stayed at this really lovely hotel for five nights in July. From start to finish it was a really enjoyable experience. All the hotel staff we met were so friendly and went that extra mile with customer service. They exhuded friendliness and enthusiasm. We had a seaview room and it was lovely to wake up and listen to the waves lapping up to the shore. We had breakfast in the hotel each day. great coffee, freshly squeezed juice and a nice breakfast buffet all served with a smile. I cannot recommend this hotel highly enough. Muchas gracias to all the wonderful staff at Saiaz Getaria

Originally we where looking to stay in San Sebastian, but all prices there where sky-high, we found the Saiaz hotel through reviews on tripadvisor and to be honest it is indeed a gem. Old building, beautifully renovated, nice, big rooms with a spacious athroom as well, we stayed in room 30 which had another treat, a big balcony, overlooking Getaria and the see, you even could see zarautz. Getting to the hotel is a bit tricky, you have to drive into a narrow dead end street, but once you have dropped your suitcases you can easily make a turn at the end. Finding a free parkingspot across the street will need a bit of luck as it is busy, but on the otherhand you can park down by the harbour for only €5,70 per night. Breakfast was also very nice, with plenty to choose from. Another big plus, free wifi! A place to return....

Once in a while you come across a real gem and the Saiaz Getaria is, without doubt, one of the best.

Fantastic location. Our, very spacious room 36, was exceptionally well appointed and had a panoramic view of the sea.

Mikel and his wife were superb hosts, always having time to chat and recommend local places of interest.

The breakfast was of high quality. A hotel we were very sorry to leave and will definitely return in the near future.

As so many others have stated, this hotel is very well run by Michel and his wife. Well furnished rooms, lovely antique pieces in the public areas. Sea views are wonderful but town facing rooms are a good size and cheaper. We had a sea-view, junior suite (26) which was excellent but even the regular sea view rooms would be very nice. Now their website is updated is it clear what the rooms look like. I loved hearing the waves.

They suggested where to find a free parking place on a nearby street. Think parking might become challenging inJuly and August- they do have a carpark ( just a few spaces) at 10 euros a day. The breakfast is really excellent quality, freshly squeezed orange juice, freshly baked pastries and good coffee and eaten looking out to sea. A really nice touch was they realised it was my 50th birthday during our stay and sent some flowers to our room.

They have no restaurant, Food wise outside they suggested Txoko (not currently on TA) on the harbour front for lunch @ 16 euro for 3 course incl bottle of wine for 2 which was very good value in a town which has some pretty expensive eating places. Tapas bar was good for a snack. On Thursday evening a lot of the bars were closed.

Room Tip: Check out their new website

Dear "Asterix et Obelix":

Thank you for your nice review.

It was a pleasure to share your 50th birthday.

We are very pleased to know your stay was so pleasant at our hotel, and that you enjoyed Getaria so much. Keeping the village authentic and welcoming is also among our concerns. We hope to see you again,

Best regards,
Mikel
