“Great stopover”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 6, 2012

We traveled by car from Santander to Estepona and had booked this hotel for an overnight stay. We were glad to have booked as we realised while driving that there were not many places to stop on the way without getting off the motorway and into town. This hotel is an older and large building with seemingly many rooms. The room we had was large, so was the bathroom, the airconditioning unit worked well and they accepted our dogs with no problems. The staff were friendly and patient with our non existant Spanish and we settled onto the porch in the late evening for a meal and drinks after our long drive. We can highly recommend this as a very convenient stopover. We did not look for a pool or other conveniences, just a comfortable safe place to sleep and some food and drink. Good value. There is a petrol station just across the road where you can buy snacks and drinks for your trip. They close at 10 pm (11 pm?) but open again early.

We stopped over while driving from Santander to Portugal. It is 6.5 hours from one and 2.5 hours from the other and located directly off the motorway, so great for a stop off. From the front it looks like an imposing building compared to the surroundings (dirt and dust) but when you get close its not clear if it gets much maintenance because the car park (the entire front apron of the hotel) is just a dust bowl.

The hotel is quite large but does not have too many rooms. The rooms themselves are clean and in common with most of the rest of the hotel, generally brown. The bed was comfortable and everything works, including the snazzy 20 jet shower. Lots of marble etc like a lot of southern european buildings. Air con in the room is a box on the wall which went off when the key card was out of the slot. I understand the hotel's need for economy but the wife thought that as a result the room was too warm. Paid 67 Euros for the room only for 1 night.

My mother in law who has also stopped here calls it the "truck stop" but that is a little unfair as it has a rustic charm for a motowayside hotel which is quite nice. There is however a parking area to the side where trucks stop for the night and a number of drivers do use both the cafe and restaurant attached to the hotel.

We used the cafe for a pre and post dinner drink and for breakfast (18 euro for two for fresh orange, a nice toasted roll with preserves and 3 coffees). It is quite large (seating for about 50 plus at the bar) and it does tapas (limited) as well as the usual stuff in a cafe bar. Staff attitude was a bit variable but really apart from one member of staff everyone happy to see us and serve us.

The restaurant was quiet and apart from us there were 3 tables occupied (all by singular lorry drivers - who appear only to eat soup!?!) The waitress was great and even though language commumication was difficult (our Spanish as bad as her English) her service was great and she tried really hard to make our meal a pleasure. With the food being tasty, she succeeded with ease and apparently one dish has even been featured locally on TV in Spain. Lots of local produce and local wines all good. Meal a bit pricey due to exchange rate though - pity 78 euros with a bottle of wine from Caceres.

There is a health club with an indoor pool, gym etc which is I think, free to guests, but although this appears quite popular with the locals (from the number of cars in the car park) it is only open part time on certain days of the week and too hot to use in the summer.

They seem to be set up for weddings in the rear of the hotel which has large gardens and a big outdoor pool, but it was all locked up when we were there and the paving seemed to need a good bit of weeding! Shame - I would have liked a dip.
