“Central and lively location, compact and clean rooms, and very close to the beach.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 26, 2011 via mobile

A typical city centre hotel; small, efficient rooms, luxury facilities therefore reflect this. Friendly efficient staff and a decent breakfast selection. Very close to the beach and the night life. Great views of the castle too.

This is a hotel. It has no pool, only a roof top terrace. Rooms are clean (yet small) and modern. The suites looked nice and roomy and provided great views and a balcony. What you miss in lesiure facilities you make up with the 'small hotel feel'. The staff were very helpful and inparticular Joana is an asset to this hotel. Nothing was too much and her customer care skills were first class. Buffet Breakfast is basic but quality of meats, cheese, fruit juice and bread were excellent. Our favourite part of our 4 night break was taking our bottle of rioja up to the roof top terrace and spending an hour waching the castle and children playing in the fountains. Would recommend this hotel for an ideally sitauted upper class hotel.

Great hotel - tranquil & clean. It's very central, close to the city beach and Santa Barbara Castle. It's basic but ticks all the boxes for a good value city break.

This was my third trip to Alicante having previously stayed at the Spa Porta Maris (noisy) and Hospes Amerigo (wonderful but expensive). We had booked our flights well in advance but waited and got a very cheap last minute deal at The Mediterranea, saving well over £100 for the 3 nights of our stay.
The location is perfect with the hotel set in a beautiful square with fountains spouting up from the ground to everyone's fascination. This was a delightful spot to sit at any time of the day or night. The historic Town Hall and lawcourts made fascinating viewing especially the succession of Saturday weddings!
The location of the hotel made it easy to walk to the esplanade with the beach and its "feeder" tram stop or if you wanted to travel further without having to change trams then the stop near the Mercado was a reasonable walk too. The tram ride back to this station with its rising gradient gave a spectacular view. The streets nearby were crammed with cafes and restaurants of every type. We did not have the hotel breakfast as we tended to eat quite late in the evening and were still too full! I did look in at the dining room one morning and thought the buffet looked quite acceptable but at 10 Euros it was not worth it for us.
The hotel reception was very small, as was the lift but our 2 rooms were generously proportioned. We weren't able to secure a "room with a view" and in fact overlooked the back street. However, although as a light sleeper, I was prepared for it to be noisy it was fine and that street didn't seem to take any noticeable traffic. Both our rooms were cleaned well, although often late in the day and the toiletries were replenished daily. I found the beds quite comfortable and the standard of linen and towels to be good. The over-bath shower was very powerful, not always a given with this type.
We were on a late flight home and the hotel was very obliging in allowing us to keep one of our rooms until 5pm so that we could have a shower and get changed before departure.
I would certainly consider staying in this hotel again.

We stayed for just two nights, the hotel over looks the town hall square, which is immense, with water fountains, imposing town hall, culture on your doorstep. And the beach two minutes walk and the nightlife two minutes away too.

Clean, cosy and modern. Not to much in the way of added extras, but very nice. The balcony is an added plus point for a bit of people watching.

We stayed on a romantic package, which included a bottle of Cava, breakfast and a late check out time of 2pm. This really made the weekend, the Cava was a real treat and with a 4pm flight home, we checked out at 2pm and then set off home. Breakfast was ok, good selection, all fresh and set you up for a hard day on the beach!

No downside at all. We have stayed on the Hospes Amerigo as well and both a great.

Romantic room comprised of 2 twin beds (!) and a balcony. Beds were really hard and uncomfortable. Balcony looked onto a square which was very noisy at night - Lots of drinkers passing through here singing and cheering etc. I suggest booking a normal double room and you may get a better nights sleep! Gym comprised of a treadmill and a stepping machine but was locked. Sauna was not on during our stay.
Breakfast was very good. Location was perfect for beach and nearby restaurants and bars.

Room Tip: Avoid a romantic room!

We visited this hotel August 2010, the location is perfect for shopping and beach lounging.
We just wanted a reasonable prized hotel, for one week, to get some sun and good food.
The room was clean and spacious enough for a weeks stay.

One big drawback and that was the breakfast, every morning when we came down, every table was either busy (fair enough) or not cleaned. The buffet was empty, and the waitresses could not care less about it, my boyfriend and I cleaned our own table 5 out of 7 mornings, and one morning, when we could not find the waitress we had to ask in the reception if there was anyone there to fill up the buffet. And 30-40 minutes before the breakfast ends it should not be empty.

Besides this, the hotels staff was helpful and attentive, and the location is as mentioned great!
