“Very poor hotel”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed January 4, 2014

Booked 2rooms for New Year's Eve , guy on reception was not very good on reception, we went out and on our return, we were told the bar was shutting at 5pm to residents unless you had tickets to there function, bar closed to residents, very ant British they didn't want to know us, everyone in hotel was Spanish. They don't like the British at all.STAY WELL AWAY.

Room Tip: Find another hotel don't spoil you holiday with people who only want your money.

This is a very pleasant, friendly hotel and excellent value for money. Most of the staff speak good English and are very helpful. The C6 airport bus (cost 2.90 euros) stops opposite the hotel, which is right next to the Marq-Castillo tram station, so travel connections couldn't really be much better. You can travel to Benidorm for 6.40 euros return if the fancy takes you, or very close to the hotel is the noted Archaeological museum, unfortunately with not too much English. The free wi-fi worked pretty well but the "gym" is very poor with some very old equipment, I did find a proper gym nearby - friendly people - charging 5 euros per day, but unfortunately on the day I wanted to use it, it was closed for "Constitution Day". I didn't eat at the hotel as my eating times of 11.00 and 17.00 rarely coincide with any restaurant's ideas about meal times. The TV had several of the main British TV channels, just missing Channel 4 and BBC 4 for my personal taste.

This place is a gem. Excellent service, clean and in a excellent location.

Alicante is simply beautiful especially in the old town part.... We ventured to benidorm on the tram for an afternoon.... Was ok... Makes u realise how stunning alicante is!

Bus stop to and from airport 2 min walk away. Tram station up the rd.

Free wifi was a bonus.

Easy walk to shops both to town and the shopping centre literally over the road.

Excellent restaurants not too far away.... Little traditional tavernas.

Booked as a last minutes girls break.... Worth every penny....

Have recommended to others

We arrived at around 16.00 and there was only one receptionist on duty. She was very nice and very helpful but it was very busy and it took almost an hour to get checked in. Not a good start but after this it got much better. All the staff are very friendly.

The décor was quite plain but our room was very clean, comfortable and very well designed. It had a good bath/shower that you could easily use without soaking the floor. Actually I have been in five star hotels with worse bathrooms than this. Plenty of space to park your toiletries, etc. We only paid £33 per night for the room with breakfast.

Plenty of wardrobe space but there was a shortage of coat hangers. They got us some more when we asked. We had a spacious room on 9th floor with an enclosed balcony and a sea view. The Wi-Fi was excellent, in fact it was the best I have experienced in a hotel. It was November so the pool was closed. It was a small pool with a few sunbeds and I would imagine good enough to have a swim and cool off in hot weather.

Breakfast is good but some items can be a bit cold - a common problem in Spain. They provide fried, scrambled and boiled eggs, bacon beans mushrooms, etc. They also have the full selection of continental breakfast components. It was much better than we expected.

Location is about a 15 minute straight walk into the centre of the city but if you can't be bothered walking in the Marq/Castello tram station is literally across the street. Trams are very quick and efficient with one every four or five minutes. There is also a bus stop right outside the hotel entrance.

I would have no hesitation in recommending the Hotel Maya. If we come back to Alicante it will be the first place we look.

In Danish translated into english 3 * is average and 4 * is very satisfactory… Since I found the place satisfactory I rate it 3 1/2 *. The guy at the front desk was a little stressed when I checked in
but he did fine. The pool was - as expected - "officially closed", but the pool area was open, so You could take a rest with a book and enjoy the sun next to the pool. The lift is a bit slow and the rooms a bit worn down, but overall cleanness fine. The wifi is a bit slow. We had a nice balconny facing the coast and the castle. Our room was the superior type. When my friend left for Denmark
I informed the front desk that I had decided to stay another day but degrade to the normal room to 15 €. I was told that I could stay in the superior room for the normal rate….nice! I would say the walk to the heart of the city is 15 minutes. bus stop to to the airport is 100 m from the hotel and so is the tram station if You want to take the two stops to get near the central train station. A satisfactory hotel.
