“Much much better than I expected!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2012

I booked the Hotel Maya after much deliberation. My fiance and I wanted to be in close proximity to the beaches and bars without all the noise and clutter of being in the downtown portion of the city. We were both very pleased with the result! We had a huge balcony where we spent our mornings having coffee (room service never really seemed to work so we ran down to the pool and brought it back up) and our evenings having wine and beer. We requested a double bed (not two twins pushed together) and received it and it was all clean and comfortable.

Other positives: A short walk into the city and the beach, great access to a local restaurant which I heartily recommend Pizzería Civitavecchia, and lovely views of the ocean and the Castillo Santa Barbara.

Negatives: Check in took about 40 minutes. We arrived around 11:00pm and didn't get to our room until almost midnight. Lots of people interrupted the reception staff with questions about keys not working and parking so it took forever. The walls are a little thin.

Room Tip: Ask for a room overlooking the ocean (not the pool!)

The hotel was great value and clean with spacious rooms. The breakfast was substantial and good quality and the choice was impressive. The view was absolutely beautiful of the Castle on the hill from our balcony. It was just a short stroll to the beach and a pleasant walk into town and we felt quite safe doing so. This hotel made the holiday and I would highly recommend it to anyone wanting to visit Alicante.

This hotel is located in a massive building with a 70’s look. We asked for an upgrade, which means a slightly bigger room with a balcony and a view to the sea or the castle. That’s what we just got: our room was clean, with plenty of sunlight and a very nice balcony overlooking the castle AND the sea. Better than many 4-star hotels I know, and all for a little extra money, so I recommend an upgrade. The hotel has a small swimming pool with a bar and an even smaller gym. Location, however, should be the main reason why you choose (or not) this hotel so I’ll try to be as clear as possible: it takes 8 minutes to walk to the beach; the first 2-3 min are very pleasant as you will walk along the castle hill, the next 3 min will be a street in an ugly (but totally safe) neighbourhood with almost no traffic and the last 2-3 min will take you to the beach after crossing a busy motorway (don’t worry, there is a traffic light and a subway). In order to reach the city centre, just walk along the beach for another 15 min. There is a car park at the hotel for 10€ per day but you won’t need to use it: there are plenty of spaces on the street, even a free parking area (except for the tip the self-appointed guard will ask you…1€ will be more than enough). Negative points: the walls between rooms are thin and not soundproof, and the surroundings are ugly except the castle. However, I’d go back to this hotel because it’s like a beach hotel in the city, reasonably priced.

Tips for Alicante: the beach is good, enjoy it – When walking from the hotel to the beach, walk straight for another 2 min instead of walking down the stairs. You will find a piazza with a gorgeous view and a nice café serving freshly squeezed fruit juices - The castle is not to be missed because of the views (there is a lift, going down is free!) – Try local rice dishes, not just paella – Avoid mojitos and caipirinhas, you’re likely to get a mystery mix of an awful quality pretty much everywhere.

Room Tip: Get an upgrade, it's worth it.

I must say for my first time in Spain i was pleasantly surprised at how clean the country is. When we arrived at the hotel and disembarked off the bus, the view was absolutely beautiful with the view of the Castle on the hill. Our room was on the 3rd floor as there were no more available double rooms when we arrived. There was a problem with the bath which apparently leaked down to the room below, so they moved us up to the 10th floor which was at the top of the hotel, with an even better room, ammenities and view. The breakfast was ok as far as continentals go, there was a wide variety to choose from. My only fault was that the names of the teas they where serving where not in english, so obviously you had no idea of what flavours they were. The beach was only a few minutes down the road, as was a shopping centre with a huge supermarket for all your needs. Service at the hotel was quite good. We would definately stay here again....Thumbs up for a good 4 night stay!!.......Nicola

My husband and myself only stayed at this hotel for 2 nights as we have relatives in Benidorm and planned to travel to them after a few days in Alicante City.
The hotel is in a good location for the beach and city centre - about 10 mins walk. The hotel is clean, modern and rooms are fairly large and well equiped. There is an outside pool area which we didnt use but it looked very inviting. Breakfast is the best breakfast I have had in an hotel in Spain.....bacon, eggs, fresh bread, fruit, yogurts....enough for every nationality !!!

We only paid 35.00 per night including breakfast and were happy with the cost. The main reason we chose hotel Maya was price and also the fact the tram stop is across the road where you can get a train to Benidorm for only 3.50 euros per person.

I enjoyed my short stay at Hotel Maya and would go again and recommend

Room Tip: I asked for a room with sea view - You need to be fairly high up in the hotel to get a sea view as l...

We stayed for 9nights early May, the hotel facilities are excellent, room cleaned every day, large room, good modern hotel throughout, nice bar/outdoor area, ok but basic bar meals but the breakfast was fantastic. Massive selection of hot and cold. We've stayed in many Spanish & Italian hotels & never had such a huge variety to chose from.
Excellent value for money, a 5min walk to the beach, a supermarket 2mins the other direction for lovely wine to stick in tr rooms mini bar! Balcony with a sea & castle view was a bonus.
Will definitely stay here again, HIGHLY recommended :)
