“Fine dining and great tapas”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2013

The day we arrived in Alicante we got a tip to check out Monastrell. Since it was a sunday the restaurant wasn't open. You could only eat tapas. So we did this for lunch and were positively surprised. Really nice and fine food. We liked it so much that we immediately booked for the tuesday.
Monastrell is a stylish chic restaurant located in the Amerigo Hotel. The staff is loose yet very organised and capable.
We started out with cocktails. A beer cocktail with lemon and salt. Who would've thought of that.
They had a nice menu card from which we chose menú María José San Román.
We strated with a oil tasting. Very special. Then Pea guacamole with lobster, roasted foie gras with saffron-tomato confit, black rice with razor clams, prawns and squid, ranch hen with asparagus emulsion, sage and inflated lentils and finally Alaska soufflé with saffron and orange marmalade ice cream. Great food accompanied by great wines. Delicate classical flavors turned into modern dishes.
The only let down was ranch hen and the Baked Alaska. The portions were pretty big (especially the Baked Alaska) and missed the delicate balance that all the others courses had.
A really good food experience. I ate wore in Michelin starred restaurant. Wouldn't be surprised if Monastrell also gets one any time soon. It would be well deserved.

“A Gem”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2013

Spending one night in Alicante prior to a morning flight home, we ate in this marvellous restaurant. The ambience is terrific in this softly lit street covered in glass above our heads. We went for the Menu de Degustation and it was magical. The chef Maria came out to advise us on some dishes and our choice was superb. The sommelier recommended wonderful Spanish wines to go with each course and was kind enough to write them down for us to take home. The food is truly magnificent and the red mullet on a tomato and saffron sauce and the lobster on a pea gazpacho were memorable. Congratulations to this splendid restaurant

“Nice experience however a little over priced”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed August 4, 2013 via mobile

We stayed at the hotel next door and thought we should give the restaurant a try. The atmosphere and setting was romantic and warm which suited my husband and I. We were seated as soon as we arrived and given bread with the most delicious olive oil. We ordered the chefs menu, which was a selection of tapas for €29 per person. There were 5 courses however the €58 price tag is in retrospect a little expensive for what we had. The service and attention to detail however was excellent. I will probably not re visit but this is due to my own taste in food and dining experience, nothing the restaurant did wrong.
