“Local's pick for quality paella”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 23, 2012 via mobile

First to check when going to a restaurant serving local food; do locals eat there, or is it set up for tourists? Casa Domingo has a tradition of being one of the first paella "chiringuitos" on the Playa de San Juan decades ago, mainly frequented by locals. Last time I have been here was 15 years ago, and coming back just feels like nothing has changed.

You need to call as per 8:00am to reserve a table for that same Sunday, proposed shifts 14:00 or 15:30. You may opt for sitting outside on the covered terrace on beach frontline, or inside; They choice was easy and worth the breeze.

Restaurant is located at the end of the first main beach, or literally at "Costa Blanca" Tram train line 3 station coming from Alicante. Once there make sure to announce yourself at front desk (at the rear). Arriving earlier will not necessarily get your tablet faster, as it seems your table is pre-assigned. Enjoy a delicious fried fish and some beer at the entrance while waiting.

Ambiance is very noisy and harsh, and as a good newbie tourist ALWAYS smile and joke with them allthough waiters might sound very rude, their are just doing their best to get all hungry people happy. Our proud moustache-wearing waiter Antonio did a great job, and tried to serve with a special sense of humour. I have read other comments on this restaurant, and do mainly not agree on lack of politeness of their staff; I you feel so, you might as well not yet speak Spanish well enough.

Our Paella de Marisco (seafood, no fish) was perfect. We ordered for 4, and I can assure it could have served 6! Do not compare these type of meals with the perfectly great LOOKING paellas you see downtown at calle Mayor in Alicante: their are tourist traps and may not have the same "savoir faire". This paella tastes great and has all it needs, with the rice "al dente". Menu proposed many different sorts of paella, fish, meat, veggie, black rice, etc.

The bill was a big surprise for us, my friends not being used to somehow lower prices in Alicante. For a total 50€ for 4 including drink, main course, coffee and some sweets, we looked if there was some error, but no, for mere 13€ each we had a great time and meal on the beach.

I definitely recommend this place if you are looking for a true local paella experience.

“Geweldig!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2012

We've been coming here for the last 4 years and their quality is the best! The Paella's are to die for and the people who work here, all typical Spanish people, a joy! We love Miguel, the bartender who never forgets an order despite the tapasbar area being fully packed! He only speaks Spanish and we only a little bit, but he understands all we want and it's delivered in no time! It's location great on the beach at San Juan, so what more do you want! For Sundays: make reservations in advance, it will be packed, esspecially the veranda area if this is where you would like to sit.
Menu's run from 9 - 16 euro's! Have fun!

“The best paella de verduras I've ever eaten”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2012

I strongly recommend this restaurant - I've eaten there the best paella de verduras, which I've ever eaten in one restaurant. Even the paellas in expensive restaurants in Alicante or Madrid are not so good. The salads very good, too. Friday and Saturday the service was very quickly, Sunday we needed to wait a bit. After all the prices are very good - we never paid more, than 35 euros (we did not take menu) with all - including wine and dessert.
One more thing - excellent view in the outdoor terrace.
