“Great hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2014

The hotel is excellent. The location, the environment, the restaurants... are just great. Everything is so clean and nice that always looks like it is new. Rooms are spacious and comfy and you can choose between the beach and the swimming pools to relax and enjoy the sunbaths. Views are incredible from these places.
It is also the quite place on earth, perfect to disconnect and relax.
But sometimes I have received a treat that is not proper of a five stars hotel like this from the staff at the check point/customers service.
I understand that when you are overbooked and the hotel is full, a crazy and a very stress days are ahead, but this is not the customer's fault: we book and pay for a kind of service/room that is supposed to receive at a 5 stars hotel and if they are not ready to give it, you better don't offer it.
The housekeepers, staff of restaurants and kindergarden (this is a 10 stars service for the kids) and the managers are very nice and friendly. They always find a perfect solution for any problem you may have.
But I think the staff at the check point should be more professional, be ready to face hard days or at least, not to be overwhelmed by those kind of days because they can ruin the wonderful experience that is enjoy this beautiful hotel.

We have just returned from a week at the Abama and thoroughly enjoyed it. Our room was spacious, we were a little disappointed not to be upgraded as we had booked with American Express, but we're told that the hotel was full. Our room had an oblique view of the resort and the road, so not great. Also our bed wasn't that comfortable, a bit like a camp bed. The food in all the restaurants was excellent, you do need to book the day before to be sure of eating where you want. We were delighted to find an Adults only heated pool which was extremely relaxing. The staff at the pool were really helpful. You need a car if you want to venture outside the resort. We went into San Juan on two evenings for dinner which was much cheaper and provided a change of scenery. Would definitely go back but would try to book a sea-view room.

Room Tip: Go for a sea view

From the minute we were greeted at check-in with a chilled glass of cava (and juice for my son), the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. What I didn't expect though, was how nice and immaculately clean the entire resort was, the incredibly views, and how spread out and relaxed the entire resort is. It could easily have been a Disney-at-Spring-Break, overcrowded affair (which was what I was half-expecting), but it never felt that way at all.

I travelled with my teenaged son at the beginning of the Easter Break, before it was terribly crowded (I was told it was about 40% occupied), highly populated with families. However we went to the golf course, the beach, the pools by the villas, and never once waited due to crowds--except for the restaurants--more on that later!

The room was spacious (two beds, a sitting area and a huge outdoor terrace with chaise lounges as well as a breakfast table), absolutely spotless and a Nespresso machine in the room! Hooray!

The golf clubhouse was fantastic, with a huge inventory of golf wear, shoes, etc. My son had a lesson which was fantastic and although we couldn't play the course as there was a tournament going on, it looked beautiful although challenging. The only downside was that the driving range was in absolutely dire condition--very disappointing.

The main pool was family heaven (tons of small children and yummy bikini-clad mummies!) and the pools by the villas were quiet and perfect for older kids and those wanting some relaxation and sun without all the noise. The beach was smallish but loads of fun for all ages with areas to jump off rocks and swim out and super-friendly beach staff who were quick to find you a chair and swathe it with towels. Again only downside was that the beachside cafe had a wait as it was pretty small.

My only complaint is that the restaurant situation needs a serious re-think. Despite the only 40% full statistic, when we arrived we were told (for the first time) that we needed to book restaurants for dinner. They were all full for our entire stay and we were barely able to get into El Mirador (which we had heard about for the sea views). What a disaster that dinner was. They were so severely understaffed we were running to the bar ourselves for bottle openers just to be able to pour ourselves glasses of bottled water. They were trying hard but there was no physical possibility to give the sort of service you expect for the prices they were charging--dinner for our party of 3 adults, 2 teens and 2 small children was over 300Euro--and took over 2.5 hours. Upon leaving I asked to speak, gently, with the manager, but he was completely uninterested in any feedback at all.

We had a car so ventured 'off-campus' quite happily to a restaurant in the local town called Jamon Jamon which was absolutely fantastic. We went back a couple of times!

Other than the food service needing some new management, the Abama was fantastic and I would definitely go back.

Room Tip: We were in the main hotel on a high floor, views were spectacular. Villas are quieter and closer to...

As many have already reported, this is an extensive resort with much to offer. The rooms are excellent and all areas seemed to be very clean. The staff are very friendly and willing to please. Indeed the plus points make a fine list for a resort of this kind.

There are many dining options. Unfortunately, all of the focus on quality appears to be somewhat limited to the high profile Michelin star restaurants. The standard of "the rest" was very disappointing. The golf club house was particularly bad - don't eat there!

However, it is testament to all the other positive aspects that resulted in a very enjoyable stay, despite the disappointing food. I suppose if I had eaten only at the top restaurants I would have given this 5 stars.

Room Tip: Avoid the rooms near the main bars in the main building (unless you are OK with late night noise). T...

One of the Best resort we have ever stayed in. Great facilities, stunning views, clean and spacious rooms (we stayed in Delux room), diverse choices of restaurants not to forget all of them are amazing with 2 Micheline star restaurants....El Mirador being the best with views, food and staff, we also used Verona, beach club and cafe in golf course. Most of all the staff was absolutely amazing, they make you feel comfortable and look after you all the time. helping and smiling. Golf course is simply amazing with great facilities and breathtaking views. Expensive but well worth it. Only weak point would be its location and beach (for those who are looking for long public beaches and are not content with small private beaches). if you do not have your own car it could be a difficult place to cover the island from, only option would be taxi or excursion tours which comes at additional cost.

Room Tip: Rooms with resort and ocean view would be good to choose from. If you can afford a villa its no brai...

Visited recently with work, this resort is very large with stunning views and brilliant staff. I was in one of the villa's which was beautiful and very large, sunken bath with separate shower, living room and two outside seating areas. Worth asking for one by the pool. Several beautiful pools and a stunning selection of restaurants. Would return for a holiday.
