“Perfect. A wonderful Haven”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 18, 2013

I spent a week here with my partner and 16 month old. We had the most wonderful stay. The resort is absolutely spotless and wonderfully maintained. The staff and service is fantastic, second to none. Some reviews mention the service is a bit slow in some of the restaurants, this may be true, particularly at the beach restaurant and the one by the large pool, but it didnt really matter, you're on holiday afterall, so time to chill out! The breakfast was fantastic, lots to choose from. The resort, although large, doesnt feel big at all, becuase it is so well designed. We stayed in one of the villas, and the pool for our "row" of villas and never felt busy or crowded. It definitely is expensive, there is no escaping that.... 25 Euro's for 2 G&T's (although they were HUGE, so you really only needed one!) Our room was massive, and the baby's cot went in the bathroom which meant he slept soundly while we enjoyed the use of our room - we were on the ground floor and had access to our own little garden, so in the evening we didnt feel trapped in our hotel room at all.

Definitely recommend stocking up at the local supermarket (5 mins in a taxi) and filling your fridge! Also, we ate at the local town (San Juan) several evenings and were glad we did, we tried several restaurants and had some fabulous food.

the only negative thing I can say is that the michellin starred MB restaurant was a major disappointment. I am all for fine dining, but my tuna starter was completely inedible, and the complementary appetisers they brought out was like a scientific experiment gone wrong. The food was simply not good, and the service, although very good, was sterile and dull. The whole experience cost just under 300 Euros (for 2 people!) and this was with no bottle of wine! Not worth it.

However, on the whole I cannot recommend this place enough, It was really quite wonderful, and a real treat to be a guest here. Enjoy

My wife and I had the pleasure of staying at this spectacular resort and could not have enjoyed it more. The staff and service was amazing, and all were so friendly and helpful. Every aspect of the resort is beautiful and so well maintained. We would go back in a heartbeat and hope to do so again.

Visited as part of a business group. A sprawling complex set in beautiful gardens. The rooms were spacious, however none of the rooms seem to have an information brochure for the hotel or spa amenities. The breakfast was lovely and the staff were very attentive. We ate in numerous on site restaurants, all were great, MB was beautiful. The Spa is very nice & the treatments were fantastic. A busy hotel, with 496 rooms, which at this time of the year possibly weren't all full, however the pool areas seemed very busy, summer times I would imagine could be pretty jammed pool side. The hotel is is located about 20 minutes drive from Playa de Las Americas, there seems to be very little in its immediate surroundings, however there is a jogging/walking route around the hotel golf course ( prepare yourself for the hilly incline!). Incidentally, according to some of the group who played golf, the course was described as amazing. My only niggly gripe concerns the wi-fi charge...€25 per day!!!

We were there after the Easter w/e having booked thru an agent. A family of four with two young children we had a Citadel Jr. Suite which was all set up with single beds for the children on our arrival. Despite being very delayed and getting to the hotel late the hotel accommodated us with a meal at the Wine Bar.

This place is big and you (like us) could have several holidays in one visit if you visit different parts and participate in the different activities/offerings that Abama has available for their guests. Firstly there are the eight pools (we stayed in the children pools but the adult pools looked really good also). The pool staff are excellent and very good with the children. Secondly the golf course and tennis was also very good. Not to mention the Spa and Children Center. Thirdly, the private beach is very nice and with access by buggy or funicular. When we were there the funicular was not working so buggy service from the lobby allowed a fun short ride down to the beach. Buggy service can be spotty and require abit of a wait. Also the beach service was good but could do better with someone around to take food and drink order as supposed to having to run up to the bar yourself.

The Child Center was excellent for the kids and the staffs there was very accommodating. Evening shows starting at 18:00 (for about half hour) is part of the evening program. The days are packed with activities for the children including face painting, dancing, football etc.

The rooms are big and very useful when it comes to travelling with family. We were on half board and found the buffet at La Vernada very good and children friendly menu. The half board allowed us to also visit other restaurant (excluding the two adult restaurants) and El Mirador was very good. Fresh seafood with a stunning view at sunset, highly recommended.

It was pretty quiet when we got there but soon a conference contingent of 500+ landed for a few days. They were certainly noticeable but given the size of the property it wasn’t too over bearing. Actually speaking they added some liveliness to the atmosphere where otherwise it would have been too quiet.

All in all a good place. Most people we spoke with are repeat visitors and have been going to Abama for several years. Hopefully we will be the same!

This resort, the staff and the service were beyond expectations. Everything was beautiful at the resort. The place is huge and it was very clean (grounds, restaurants, banos, etc.) Definitely a place to go with other people as it has several pools, restaurants, bars and a big beach to enjoy. The only down side - the pools were not heated. The food was better than average but not a lot of options on the menus.

We stayed at the Abama resort as part of a company function (500+ people) and to put it simply...we owned the place! If it weren't for the large group of acquaintances, I imagine the resort being quite (perhaps too quiet) and boring unless you're traveling as a couple or a group of friends. The resort's service staff are top notch and very helpful and friendly. Also the room amenities are fit for a Ritz standard and I only rated it 4 stars due to the uninspired lunch and dinner buffet (limited choices and bland). The breakfast however is worth 5 stars. Overall, we had a blast, but again this is based on our company function and planned activities.

Room Tip: If you want space and privacy as a family or a couple, go for the villas on the 2nd floors that have...

This hotel is like an El Dorado in the desert. It is massive and it's very easy to get lost and not know where your rooms are. A few more signs would help. It also takes a long time to get around--such as if you have to go from your room to pick up your kids at the kids' club. Most of the staff were very helpful and friendly. It's a nice place for families with a heated pool, plenty of room to explore, a kids' club/activity centre, and a private beach. For adults, there is a futuristic spa and adults only dining.

But it really is secluded. There aren't many interesting places to go to nearby--definitely nowhere you could walk to--the closest town is a bit of a dud--so we felt a bit trapped and we ended up spending too much time at the hotel, where we relied on room service and the buffet for meals, which were very, very, very pricey. There are a couple of luxury goods shops on site, but if you need any sundries, the very, very expensive convenience shop doesn't have very convenient hours.

It can be hard to enjoy yourself when you're constantly shoveling out ££££. The lack of options was really off-putting. (We did end up at a roadside bar for lunch one day. But that goes far in the other direction.)

Our rooms were large, but I personally prefer a carpeted room to the cold tile that was there. And the bathroom in one of our rooms smelled like sewage for a couple of days. We got around it by just using the bathroom in the connecting room. And one of our showers didn't work.

The weather was lousy while we were there too (at the end of February), which further made us doubt our choice to go there.

So, to recap, super expensive, cold, sewage--but extremely luxurious!
