“Excellent place to stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 18, 2013

I stayed one day at the Pension O Meson Novo on my Camino Ingles and the family of Piri and Antonio were very welcoming and spoke good English. This made me stay another night and explored the peaceful surroundings. They supplied an excellent lunch and tapas, nearby there were good eating places. The room have been renovated to a very high standard and excellent bathroom with douche. They were very helpful and very hardworking family.

The rooms are fine - the hostal is fine but the people are wonderfully welcoming, helpful and kind. They work very long hours but are friendly and good natured late at night and then early the next morning again. We walked the camino ingles in May this year and were amazed by and so very grateful for, the kindness of the lovely people of Galicia and the Meson Novo. Do not hesitate to book in here.

Doing the camino ingles, i rang a day before to book. They could fit me in and agreed to pick me up from the Albergue at Bruma ( which is on the camino, O Meson Novo is about 2+ km off the camino ingles). They gave me a simple but delicious supper, a huge portion of cooked ham, 3 croquettes, a generous portion of very fresh bread, butter, and a large simple salad. The bill for a night (booked directly with them) including picking me up from Bruma, and my simple supper was 30 euros! This for a very comfortable and spacious room. The hotel is close to a main road, but has double glazing ( it was cool enough for me to have the window closed while I was there, even though it was July). There was no bath in my room, but the shower was powerful. The owners speak English having lived in England, but I don't speak Spanish. They kindly helped me find a trustworthy taxi driver to take my rucksack on to the next stop which was Betanzos ( we thought this would cost me about 25 euros, but actually the taxi driver only charged me 10 euros). There is a supermarket within 5-6 minutes walk, which provided water fruit and nuts for my next days walking. A fab hotel, simple yet spacious rooms, that I heartily recommend.

We were very happy to have stayed here. The father and mother can understand and speak quite a bit of English and Antonio speaks very well. We made a mistake with our booking, one of our group was injured on the camino and we had to change our plans a little. In all the panic I confused the booking and thought we had booked Wednesday night when we had in fact booked Tuesday. After a panicked phone call on Tuesday night a new set of rooms was booked for Wednesday and Antonio insisted on waving the cost of cancelling Tuesday night. The hotel was comfortable, clean and in a small little village with a nice atmosphere. The showers were powerful and hot and after a long days walking it was amazing to stay here. 2km walk from Bruma and right by the Camino path. They are very welcoming and we'd stay again.

Such a warm welcome after a long days walking. Antonio used to work in the UK and speaks English. The rooms are lovely - totally up to good hotel standards with lots of hot water - eventually! Exceptional value. We walked to Siguero but got the bus back here to stay for a second night, thus allowing us to walk without our larger packs. Meson do Vento is a nice small town with a couple of good restaurants as well. You will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quieter. We even got our own single rooms for the same price as it was out of...

Our pilgrim’s group of 6 stayed at the Pension O Meson Novo while on the Camino Ingles. We had booked a stay only for 1 night, as we wanted to stay at the nearby albergue in Hospital de Bruma the following night. But our stay at Meson Novo was so wonderful, we decided to stay the following day and we were lucky enough to be accommodated. The family of Antonio, his mum and dad, are amazing, treating us with so much warmth and kindness.

Dinners are delicious, though there are no menus. Antonio’s mum will serve you whatever she has that day at her appointed time, I guess depending on what is available on the market. A dinner of breaded chicken breast, empanaditas de atun, ensalada, patatas fritas, Pimientos de Padrón, cost only a total of €70 (€11 per person only), including wine, soda and cheese! Coffee and freshly-made churros were great! She also prepared bocadillos which we took with us for lunch on the camino.

Overall, Pension O Meson Novo was a fine example of Galician warmth and hospitality. Perfect stopover to recharge and recover for the next leg of the Camino.

After a long weary day of walking this place was a real gem! Very reasonably priced rooms and fantastic home cooked tapas and raciones at the bar. Owners very helpful and friendly. A real pleasure to stay here.
